^yup, if an object of that mass fell from the sky there would be a crater and the surrounding habitat would not seem so intact especially the trees around it.

and why would the Russian soldiers be actively guarding it so close? Normally you`d set up a larger perimeter. Not just stand beside the thing that people aren`t supposed to see.
