A study suggests, maybe not.

I like realistic FPS games. I am not interested into exaggerated and unrealistic gore and blood. But trying to edit out the blood and death animations just makes the game unrealistic and stupid.

Even if your opponent "teleports" back at spawn when you "kill" him, all you really do is skip the death animation. At the end of the road, you`ve still shot someone in the game.

Will the sight of fake digital blood or the sight of a 3D model of a dead body collapsing on the floor make me a more violent person? I strongly doubt it will.

When the violence is over exceeding reality people do not relate to it at some point. It can actually have less impact.

Take a game like `Bully`, a watered down GTA,... nothing more. School kids might actually try to reproduce the shit thats in that game (set a garbage can on fire, ring the alarm, throw a frisbee on the roof, beat up the fat kids).

Seriously, I doubt that after playing GTA you will actually steal a police car, go downtown and kill hookers with the flame thrower.

I agree. I`ve known this for years. Why do they think nearly half of the top 10 games in sales figures each year are non-violent? Also many of the violent ones are rts with minimum gore/violence or they`re J games and have no blood at all. Examples: Soul Calibur 4 and the FF series.

In my opinion no matter how gore filled and violent a game may be, if its not a fun and engaging game, people wont play it. Or they`ll play it for a bit and when the novelty wears off they`re done with it.
