Before The Music Dies

Narrated by Academy Award® Winner Forest Whitaker, BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES is an unsettling and inspiring look at today’s popular music industry featuring interviews and performances by Erykah Badu, Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews, Branford Marsalis, ?uestlove and a wide variety of others. The documentary film has built a passionate following as “the most important film a music fan will ever see” (XM Radio) by providing “a balanced overview of the state of the rock scene of America” (The Wall Street Journal) and adding “passion to the eternal debate about the industry” (The New York Times). Last year, BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen walked away from traditional Hollywood distribution to instead pursue a large-scale grassroots release with B-Side Entertainment. Since its release in November 2006, the film has screened over 200 times in over 130 North American markets with hundreds of additional events anticipated worldwide during 2007.

Don`t vote this down just because it`s long and you don`t want to see the whole thing. Give it a watch; you might be surprised.

Unintentionally hilarious. Both the film-makers and the artists interviewed give no indication of awareness that the complaints they are making, and the problems they think they see, are absolutely the oldest story in the book. An aging generation *always* thinks things were better some time in the past, when THEY were getting started. It *always* thinks that the musical values we should treasure are being trashed. Business is *always* the enemy of artistry. Don`t any of these aging rockers remember what the lovers of Ira Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael said about rock `n roll when rock was young? Only the names of the players and the songs change.

The sole reason for all of this is obviously proft. We see it everywhere we go. In my own personal oppinion I blame pop culture for this, but the sole corupption of the music industry stems from what I call the teeny boppers. The young girls of the Western world who find it easier to like catchy songs released once a week than to appreciate music by searching for their own musical taste. Music is like clothing, if your not with the latest stuff your song, your not with the trend, and as of the last few years, the gaming industry to many of our dismay.

The good thing is that there are people out there still doing things for the love of it, I like underground music and hard style DnB because it is untainted. There is still good music out there, it`s just hard to find.

Btw I`m on E, so this comment will need some editing later on... Sorry. :(

The music industry is not the only place going down the drain, terrible movies only made to be milked for profit the raping of classics such as Indiana Jones, star wars etc... The murder of good television.

SantaAndFriends I completely agree...there is good music. You just can`t find it easy. Mostly you need to have a solid interest in music in general to go and be a bit adventuress and discover on your own.

I believe lack of inspiration is one of the main reasons people pirate so much music. Same goes for movies. Who would pay 20 bucks for a cd that has 1 hit + crap?

Its the copywrite that is killing music, got nothing to do with this boring docu

The music in the 30`s 40`s 50`s,60`s,70`s would all have been sued out of existance in the 2000`s for copywrite.
