This goes back to a classic question about the tree falling in a forest.

The fact of the matter is that, yes, trees falling in the forest make noise. That`s what we have scientific observation for, this is what the Scientific Method demonstrates. We learn often times that things happen whether or not we are there to experience it. Things happen whether or not we`re aware of it happening.

Conscious mind is the flashing of synapses in a nervous system of a carbon based life form on a crust of land on a planet in the arm of a spinning galaxy whirling around in a cluster of galaxies in the great dark of the universe.

We haven`t even been around for a few million years and we get so uppity and self important enough to claim our "consciousness" drives anything? Fact of the matter is the universe existed loooong before us and will long after. The thoughts on us being a blip on the energy field of the universe is interesting, however, claiming our consciousness does anything to change anything is bogus.

Great video, I think its important to sometimes think outside the box, but heres my take....

Consciousness is nothing but a high speed flux of our 5 senses at work, and this presents a sort of illusion, what we call "consciousness". Take your 5 senses away and we`d have no sense of existence at all. Our memory is the reason we can learn and hence do anything and everything in life, and what we remember is from our 5 senses. We remember, how things look, feel, taste, hear, and smell. Thats it..... the rest is history.

We want to believe consciousness is something "apart" from the physical universe because we want to be UNIQUE and something MORE than just a bunch particles put together over billions of years of evolution.

It was only about 500 years ago that everyone on this planet actually believed the Earth was at the centre of the universe. Why? Again, because we want to be unique. Not just one grain of sand on a beach.

The ego is a powerful tool. It has made the human race divert away from the scientific/logical reasoning forever. Its a scary thought to think our lives have no "meaning"...... To me, theres nothing more fascinating than discovering what we are and how we came to be through direct physical observation of our surroundings. As complicated as the mechanics (mathematics) of the universe are, its beyond me how some people in this day and age would rather believe in anything other than what nature PHYSICALLY (our 5 senses) shows us.

I`m not gonna waste much time trying to convince anyone , but the fact of the matter is this video is based on facts and experiments. It`s theories from quantum mechanics, explaining the study at the sub-atomic level , how test have shown that electrons in atoms when observed are locked in position ,either wave or particle , when that same electron isnt observed(not gonna start to explain their experiments, look it up) , anyways when that same electron isn`t observed its in super position , super position is every single possible position.so basically the test have shown when you look at something its locked in a position , when you turn your head from it those same atoms are everywhere not in a certain position. these theories aren`t made up on a whim or thin air , they`re based on many years , about 100 or more years of test . more recent studies have solidified these theories.for example finding out why electrons blink in and out of existence , many quantum physicist from major institutions M.I.T. etc say electrons appear literally by thought as insane as that might sound so its not "new age philosophical bullshit" as someone said , you can disagree with it if you`re a scientist and have done studies yourself. but realize the universe and evolution and what you know now will eventually not be true

@Red Heaven: To your first statement, I argue that if a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, it does NOT make a sound. Sound is the byproduct of that tree causing fluctuations of particles in the air traveling at certain frequencies entering our ears, vibrating our eardrums, and our brains making sense of that and registering it as sound in our heads. Without consciousness, sound is nothing but noiseless vibrations.

I completely agree with your second statement.

And to your third, yes, our combined consciousness would only be considered a blip in the time scale of the universe, but who`s to say that we are the ONLY consciousness in the entire universe? Time is relative. I`m a believer in life being existent through the universe and at subatomic levels. If life could be created at such a size, then who`s to say that THAT specific consciousness didn`t drive the big bang into happening? The human race has it`s own consciousness and surely isn`t the only one shaping the universe, but it does have it`s own part to play.

This kind of video makes me sad. Nothing wrong with far-out theories, people should believe whatever they want and especially consider whatever they want. But this is simply bad science. I used to be relatively welcoming to this sort of stuff, then I went to university. : / Really, unless if you think scientist make space-shuttles by just fiddling around and being lucky, you`ll be distrusting of this video because it really distorts what physics is about.

You`re arguing semantics. When the tree is falling it is generating vibrations in the air molecules in a ripple effect, as you stated. THIS is sound, not us hearing it.

There are many sounds we actually don`t hear, but they`re sounds and they`re happening. Some sounds require more specialized hearing, and only certain animals pick them up. "If a person blows a dog whistle, and there`s no dog to hear it, is it making a sound?"

Of course it is. We know this because the dog whistle is designed to work on a different hearing level. The sound is occurring when we blow on it regardless of the fact that we can`t perceive it. What we "hear" is limited by our instruments, our ears. We -hear- and -translate- sound, but the core of "sound" remains. We understand air vibrations and frequencies, and know that in space there is no sound.

If a floating tree bumps into a shuttle in space, and there`s a spaceman to hear it, does it make a sound?

NO. The spaceman doesn`t hear it because there`s no air, and therefore, the impact doesn`t cause a disturbance except in the hull. -Sound-, therefore, isn`t reliant on the instruments picking it up but the medium that allows it to exist.

And, finally, no, I didn`t say our "combined consciousness would only be considered a blip in the time scale of the universe". Where the hell did you get that? I`m talking about energy in our own bodies within the spectrum of energy in the universe. Consciousness is a complex series of synapses in the brain.

Consciousness can be hindered. I put drugs in someone`s food or drink and they go -unconscious-. I remove a piece of someone`s brain and their capacity to be conscious disappears. I put drugs in to block certain information in the brain and their "consciousness" changes.

This is similar to the issue with sound you presented. If I numbed someone`s arm, and they cannot perceive I`m poking it, am I really poking it? Of course I am. Just because they can`t register it in their brain doesn`t mean it isn`t happening. Consciousness is also limited by brain capacity. For biology bigger is better, and a bigger brain has allowed for more processing power. It also requires MUCH more blood, more fats, etc to keep functioning. "Consciousness" is just like complex computer code. When you break it down it`s just synapses firing on... and firing off.
