i thought the original queston was "Why is it there are no commandments saying do not rape, do not torture, or do not commit insest; yet there are commandments against swearing, working on Sunday, and making statues to other God`s?", not "Obama, whats parts of the Bible do you believe?"

read between the lines, this guy ain`t no christian - and good on him! But it would have been the end of his campaign to admit it! He joined the church when he decided he wanted to be a politician... And hey, no harm no foul. Its just nice to know the country will be run by an intelligent team and an intelligent leadeer for once.

As usual Bill Maher attempts to paint religion and faith with his very small brush. Obama simply shows his ignorance in Christian morality (and the 10 Commandments).

The premise of Bill Maher`s question falsely portrays Christian morality. He says, "If the 10 commandments constitute the greatest source of morality then ..." Christian morality includes the 10 commandments but is not narrowly restricted by them. Jews at the time of Moses understood this as we do today. Christian morality CLEARLY state that toture, incest and rape is clearly wrong. Judiasm also holds the immoral acts Bill speaks of as wrong as well.

Bill Maher knows this, but his sole desire is to distort Christianity in an attempt to undermind Christianity in the perception of viewers.

For example, Maher states simply the commandment regarding not making statues to other gods. This commandment is not simply about statues but rather the turning away from the only God in order to worship a false god, hence moving away from the very source of life to nothing, to spiritual emptiness. Similarly, "Not swearing" is siimplically stated by Maher when in reality this commandment speaks of not turning away from God, certainly verbally but also in your heart, mind and soul from which the origins of our speak arise. Degrading God in one`s speech in reality is an inward movement away again from the very source of life into emptiness.

Obama simply shows his lack of knowledge of the Christian faith and morality. He is rambling as he did on every topic asked of him. I surprise his rhetoric of "change" did not make it into his answer.

He was trying not to offend either side. I personally am on the side of no religion as our most spiked users. But i would have preferred him saying what he really believes instead of mincing words as to not loss popularity.

In any case I liked that Bill asked a serious question. I would have given Obama an A for effort but an D for content.
