War in Athens - Greek Riots

2 and a half weeks going strong. Social unrest has reached a boiling point, and the shooting of a 15 year old boy in early/mid December sparked relentless riots across Greece due to large scale social unrest, unemployment, slumping economy, police brutality and government policies and mass corruption. Power to the people. This is how you make your government fear you and get your voice heard. Street politics at their finest. The rest of the world has taken notice.

What we witness in Greece is not trivial. The kneejerk branding of the rioters as "thugs", "punks", or "troublemakers" is ridiculously simple minded. This is social upheaval. This is how it works. This is it how it has worked for centuries. Society, being NON-FUNCTIONING, contorts on itself.

Leave it to North America`s middling classes to be confused, angered and outraged at another people`s show of social solidarity. While our backseat analysts complain of the destruction of "property" and over-sized Christmas trees, wondering what could possibly ever be accomplished, the Greeks are mobilizing--Professors and teachers are walking out, unions are going on strike, even the leftist political parties are organizing to topple the government. It`s called a "movement", it`s called politics of the street and it`s something we sorely, sorely need in North America.

You can keep telling your little fairy tales about Gandhi, and keep doing your little letter writing campaigns but the reality is change doesn`t happen, changes is made to happen. And these kids and youth in Greece (and in many other European countries), have more political awareness and more political clout than a majority of middle class North Americans who are happy to care less and less, as long as they are gaining more and more material shit, no matter how hard they are getting fucked.

Power to the people!

its cuz most of the riots in the US (and here in Canada) happen after sports games. possibly because of religion here too. we never see riots based on the fact of an unfair gov`t. its the North America`s middling classes that need to riot and rise up to an unfair gov`t, especially in the US with the bullshit economic crisis and HMO disasters.

Clearly this is very dear to your heart Ezay, but violent protests -never- get you anywhere. If the protesters are throwing Molktiv Cocktails and rocks it makes it look bad and the protests take a back seat.

I rarely post on any video Ezay but let me take this opportunity.
Piss On You.
As a Southern American, my people set this whole damned country ablaze in support of their Freedom and Ideals. I am so ill of asshats like you that crawl up on your cardboard soapbox and paint the entirety of Americans as brainwashed sheep or All Knowing Tyrants of the world, depending on which ignorant point you want to make. Let me point out that its the GREEK government that has caused this acting like and asshole just as OUR government acts like an asshole in our global affairs. Do not sit there sniffing your own empowered piss and presume to tell me about my country. When we have had enough, action will come. And you know what? For all the ill spoken words about our outrageous gun laws or lack thereof, when it comes down to it, we are armed to the teeth. When America decides to ignite, we do it the chorus of a .308

To Kathalas:

The problem is that the anarchists conduct protests, while the uneducated "squeegy style" people take advantage of slight disorder to commit crimes giving the anarchist movement a poorer image than it should have. Some anarchists might go as far as to say that those who commit the damaging riot style crimes are paid to do so by the government itself to discredit the movement. But those are `conspiracies` that have no actual proof.

Most anarchist in Greece would be intellectual students attending university, and not the stereotypical squeegy kids you see on the streets of other major urban centers.

As for you purgatoryironworks:
I never implied nor stated that all North Americans are `mindless sheep` or zombies. But if you cannot acknowledge the fact that a very LARGE MAJORITY would much rather passively watch things go by rather than do something about it, then you are in for a rude awakening....especially with the generation being produced today: As materialistic and care-free as ever.

I am not sniffing my own `empowered piss`, I am just being highly optimistic and trying to spread the message and standard that has already been set. Our own governments in Canada and the USA, and even across Europe all took notice and took drastic measures to avoid anything like this happening anywhere else, just as things were starting to ehat up in France, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, etc. becuause they knew the message these riots carried and the potential to be taken upon by others feeling just as hopeless and oppressed.

And as a matter of fact, I am not denying that shit like this will never happen in North America, I am hoping and almost know it will happen, but I just fear that by then it might be just a bit too late.

So you can stick that up your pipe and smoke it.

Ill take your arguments point by point sir.

As for saying you implied nothing about Americans...

" The kneejerk branding of the rioters as "thugs", "punks", or "troublemakers" is ridiculously simple minded"
"Leave it to North America`s middling classes to be confused, angered and outraged at another people`s show of social solidarity"

Can you honestly tell me that the -reasonable- reader wouldn`t take this as I said?

I will not only accept your argument about our current generation but wholly back it. I am a blacksmith for God`s sake. I sorely understand the absolute incompetency of our average citizen. I can take dirt and make into machines. Most twenty somethings have difficulty with the concept of velcro. Once upon a time, most citizens shared the ability to do for themselves, independent of any system outside of their own two hands, including a government. It was those people, those stand by themselves folk, that made our country great.

" they knew the message these riots carried and the potential to be taken upon by others feeling just as hopeless and oppressed"
This is where I take issue, sir. As Americans the vast majority of us have never walked out or door with any real fear of being kidnapped by drug lords, assasinated by rival religous factions, or blown up by a suicidal Goth kid. Sure, we got issues but damn, we have it very good! Hopeless and oppressed? We are many things but hopeless? Oppressed? The very reason so few are moved to take action on anything is because they are pretty damned comfortable. Starving people kill for food. Have you seen all the fat chicks we have? Even our homeless have to hit the weight watcher dumpsters every now and then!
If you are trying to push for solidarity, I say it is -you- who are off base. We live in a land of excess where it is rare our needs are not met. And with so many people with so many opinions and views the only thing that can unite them is a significant threat to all of them. Dare I say 911, Democrat, Republican, and the Whole of America was out for blood. Regardless of why it was , just or not, for a brief moment there was solidarity. That`s a movement. For the entire US to be out in the street marching, NY would have to evaporate in an explosion with a big sign that says who did it and what time they will be home. Honestly, since 1776, there have been Doom sayers, separatists, Klans, and other assorted asshats that all claim the end of morality and this country are just around the corner. The latest flavor is that a black president is surely a sign of the end times. My point is this... These are hitting the street over a serious issue. In the scope of things, the whole of greece is a small place where that kind of change can occur. Is it reasonable to think the same can happen over some 250 -million- people?

And as a blacksmith, son, I -make- the damn pipe and grow the fucking weed.
