I have only read one of his books, but it was fascinating. Prometheus Rising. Not only does he tell you how ridiculously skewed our views on reality are, but at the end of each chapter he has a few mental exercises you can do to show yourself just how distorted your own little perception of reality is.

Read The Illuminatus: Trilogy, its the craziest world shattering book ive ever read, its like Finnegans Wake on acid. Illuminatus wiki: "The plot meanders between the thoughts, hallucinations and inner voices (both real and imagined) of its many characters, as well as through time (past, present and future)—sometimes in mid-sentence. Much of the back story is explained via dialogue between characters, who recount unreliable, often mutually contradictory, versions of their supposed histories. There are even parts in the book where it actually reviews and jokingly deconstructs itself."

The mind is incapable of grasping the true nature of reality. The mind is supposed to only be able to comprehend through concepts and entities, which are fixed. Accordingly, the ever-changing nature of reality and its essence cannot be comprehended by it.

Consciousness, on the other hand, which may be loosely said to be observance without mental commentary or activity, enables knowing of reality in a much more concrete manner. This premise is debatable though because it could be contended that even apparent neutral observance without mental activity can only be performed through the mind, where the mind is assumed to be a subjective instrument of perception.

In other words how can we perceive objectively when everything we perceive is governed by the perceiving instrument and hence influenced by it?

Well the key would be to find instances where consciousness has been found manifested outside of a body, of course, you have to be careful with all the shit that is out there claiming consciousness outside of a body.
Im looking at studies made from operations where the body is completely shut off, no blood in the cooled down body, no brain activity, nothing at all but the patient has a clear understanding of everything that went on during the whole operation.
You can find this in studies started by Dr. Robert Spetzler at the Barrow Neurological Institute of Phoenix, Arizona. I believe the first hard evidence patient was Pam Reynolds, I wont say much more so that I don`t take much space on the comment page but give it a look. It was even reported on Lancet Magazine "The Lancet is the world`s leading general medical journal and specialty journals in Oncology, Neurology and Infectious Diseases" and they don`t fuck around at Lancet HQ`s.
The theory would be that the brain is a Receiver of consciousness, not a Producer. Of course im not saying its true but give it a look, there have been over 70 similar cases under the strictest medical supervision since.
Remember not to accept anything other than absolutely extraordinary amounts of extraordinary evidence for this extraordinary claim im making. Tell me what you think if you feel like it.

All this quantum/super hologram stuff is fascinating and I believe it unifies just about all other beliefs (or goes toward explaining them), like remote viewing, out of body experiences, religion, ghosts, aliens, telepathy, reincarnation, etc

Maybe true understanding of quantum mechanics will bring us to our next evolutionary step. Like a moth becoming a butterfly, our intelligence could transform and we could be gods, with power over time and space. Or maybe it will just help unify the world in a mutual belief :D

a deeper understanding of nature.

The university of Princeton has has an interesting
ongoing study that is related to QM and consciousness. They use a series of random
event generators (REG). it`s a sort of electronic coin flipper that crates random bits or ones and zeroes. The generator they use is based on the uncertainty of QM so it is truly random and unpredictable.

The aim is to see if there is a pattern or non-randomness in the data that correlates with major global event. So far the result have been quite good.
