Living there (here for me too) is pretty sweet...but it isn`t quite what you think.

The racism, sexism, xenophobia, child pornography, karoshi (worked to death, recognized by hospitals and such as a cause of death), belief in cultural supremacy (oh yeah), and such...

The technology isn`t all that either....the best phones you can get are generally NOT the Japanese ones. There certainly is more tech...but a lot of it is just stuff that really isn`t that advanced. The amount of crap you can get that plugs into a USB jack is astounding...but not technologically advanced.

That bike loader that was on here a few days ago was cool, but most of the world just doesn`t need they because they have more space. The other countries that could use them....probably cant afford them. (China...India...)

Don`t get me wrong, I love the place and my smokin` girl....but take all this stuff with a grain of salt.

^oh man do I agree. I used to live there for years in the Aomori prefecture. That was my most favorite home, and i have lived all over the world!

But alot of you Japanese fanboys and girls are interested in it for all retarded reasons, you like it for stereotypes. Afterwhile it kinda starts to piss me off. I dont know how other people who live there or who have lived there feel but thats the way I do.

My wife and I are going to Masawa, Japan in a few months. Gonna be stationed there for 4-5 years and I am hoping to take in as much of the old and new culture as possible.

The pop culture is interesting to me, but mostly I want to better grasp the language and learn more about a culture other then America. Oh and I will be hitting a hot spring for sure in a more traditional Nippon Inn. One of those old family owned places you know.

thats where I lived. Misawa to me is the real japan that hardly anybody else see`s. Have a good time there!

If you`re interested in hotsprings I know great onsens that are nearby the base so if your interested let me know!

I am up in Sapporo. We just got hit with half a meter of snow. Wanna come skiing or boarding??? I can hook you guys up. by the way, the vid is great. and the service, shapesphere, you nailed. I went back to Canada a few years ago, and was completely hit with reverse culture shock. I couldn`t believe how "rude" everyone was. hahaha, well, nuff said from me.
