Sol 01

The Sun is now in the quietest phase of its 11-year activity cycle, the solar minimum - in fact, it has been unusually quiet this year - with over 200 days so far with no observed sunspots. The solar wind has also dropped to its lowest levels in 50 years. Scientists are unsure of the significance of this unusual calm, but are continually monitoring our closest star with an array of telescopes and satellites. Seen below are some recent images of the Sun in more active times.

once the sun spots start, we`re going to have some very unusual weather patterns and disruptions to our agricultural industries.

Actually the lack of the sunspots is affecting us this year and last. 2008 was one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record for the majority of Canada. I am a firm believer in global warming being caused by humanity but in fact in the past decade analysis of the increasing average temperature may have been skewed by abnormally active sunspots.

The link below was from 2004 and is stating that the sunspots reached a 1000-year high of activity, coinciding with increased global temperatures.

Now that we are in a lull time, the average temperature has cooled off drastically. So although there is probably some cause for alarm with our own affect on climate, in fact it could have been an overactive sun that added to our woes. That being said, the weather in the northern US and Canada this winter has been abnormally snowy and cold. So with or without the sunspots, it`s a case of either too little too late or too much of a good thing.
