most religious people will never admit the falsehood of their religions, no matter the evidence that is presented.
their religions have been beaten into their brains for years and in many cases have constructed their brains differently.
we just have to try and educate as many people as possible and let them form their own opinions. eventually the religious people will all die off, or be outnumbered by people that actually think.

^same with atheism, the belief in no deity

the fact is that the "evidence that is presented" can never rationally prove that God does NOT exist

atheists present their evidence on the grounds that God does not exist

religious people present theirs on the grounds that God does exist

the fact is that religious people are much more educated than your average atheist: how many atheistic institutions are organized?

just because you don`t believe it, doesn`t mean you`re better.

aerokpc, ur a fucking idiot. no, the scientific method cannot (and probably never) prove that there is no "God", but it proves that the existence of an all powerful, all knowing being is so improbable that you might as well believe in leprechauns if u believe in God. and if you think that religious people are more educated than atheists, your even more of a fucking idiot than i thought. i agree, we are way less organize than most religious sects, organizing atheists has been compared to herding cats, because they tend to think independently and will not conform to authority. But to say we are less educated than religious ppl is an outright lie. not only do atheist and agnostics outnumber Jews and many other religious sects; not only were the American Founding Fathers all atheists, or at least a pantheist or some kind of agnostic, but the great minds from Einstein, Darwin and Hawkings were also non-believers in a all powerful God. Mensa Magazine also did a study proving that "the higher one`s intelligence or education level, the less one is likely to be religious or hold `beliefs` of any kind." so before you go opening your mouth with your religious bullshit, you remember that for every argument that you have supporting your "God", i got 10 that prove the improbability that your "God" exists.....with science and the greatest minds of our time backing me up.

Sigh..
Into the fray once more..
Ok.
Some of you will have heard me say before "If there is a God, good. If there is no God that`s ok too. What`s important is to improve YOUR SELF, reduce the suffering of others by right thought and right action."
I`m Buddhist.
Buddha didn`t believe in God but I choose to believe in God. A God that I am but a small part of.
You say "proove there is a God using the Scientific Method"
I say "Ok. But first proove YOU exist."
Where is this "I" you refer to all the time.
Are you your name?
No.
Are you your deeds?
No.
Are you the same person you were yesterday?
NO.
So really...
WHO ARE YOU?
When you can answer that question using the scientific method, we can begin to unravel the question of who is this God thing anyway.

Why bother yourself with such a trivial question?

Every parent raises their kid(s) to believe what they do at the time. To act like Dawkins doesn`t or didn`t teach his kids exactly what he believes is just silly. There are no winners in this debate that so fiercely rages on. You can not prove anything either way on either side. I believe it was Hitchens that said being educated only helps you to understand how much you actually don`t know, or something to that effect. How true indeed. Prove God exists, you cant. Prove God does not exist, you cant. Lets just be good to one another and hypothesize because in the end, most of what believe today is just that.

^^^"What`s important is to improve YOUR SELF, reduce the suffering of others by right thought and right action."

so by believing in fairy tales, that is improving yourself? and i hate to tell u this but religion is responsible for a hell of a lot of "suffering of others by right thought and action" than atheism. buddism less so than the abrahamic religions. as for as your "questions" go, if you uses REASON and LOGIC to answer them, they are simple answerable questions. but if u use magical fairy pixie-dust FAITH, well then you will never answer them. one more point. you say "If there is a God, good. If there is no God that`s ok too." lets say you have been believing in YAHWEH all your life, you die, then you confront BAAL in your afterlife. According to scripture, Yahweh and Baal dont "get along" too well with each other. I think someone who doesnt believe in a God, would be better off than someone believing in the WRONG God.

Very good point sir!
Religion has been responsible for a great deal of the pain/death and destruction of humanity and I cringe everytime I see it.
But why do you blame God? It`s people who are doing it. By pointing to them and saying "Look at what God made them do" you are in a way perpetuating a belief in God.

However, people themselves are responsible for their suffering.
Pain is your body telling you that damage is happening.
The beginning of suffering is when you take hold of the pain and say "Look at what he did to me! I`m going to hurt him back."
That is an emotional Ego based decision. He or she made that decision, not God.
If a person in that situation could exercise some restraint and other mental techniques as taught by Buddhism they may have a more measured response.

@computermexican:
Well said sir. Lets just be good to one another. We don`t need religion to do that.

@zorgon17:
Trivial?
Trying to understand the root of your self and your motivations is trivial?
This is the "holy grail" of cognitive psychologists everywhere.
If we can understand the root of the "I" we can better understand various clinical maladies.

Omnicron.4735 i dont blame God because i dont believe in God. I blame people. But people created the idea of God, the idea of religion. Sure we can hold individuals responsible for all the religious hate in the world (and we should), but that doesnt mean we shouldnt ignore the source.
When a BOOK tells you to beat your wife or face the wrath of God;
When a BOOK tells to kill your wife if she commits adultery; When a BOOK tell you that you will survive your own death without any evidence at all;
When a BOOK tells you that if you die a martyr, you will go to a special paradise with 72 virgins;
When a BOOK tell you Faith (belief without evidence) is a virtue. The more your beliefs defy the evidence, the more virtuous you are;
When a BOOK tells you that bread and wine, blessed by a priest (who MUST have testicles), `become` the body and blood of a fatherless man, born to virgin.
And when you base your entire religion around this BOOK(s), written and re-written by men no less, then there is no logical/rational/reasonal way you CANNOT hold religion in contempt for the crimes committed by its followers. Buddhism is a lesser threat to humanity, but dont believe for a second that there isnt blood on the almighty Buddha`s hands either.

^ (Claps) I held your exact position with my ex with the exception that I do believe there must be a God. She would say I had no core beliefs because we were both brought up Christian and I have within the last 2 years or so started to shift my position to one of thinking/questioning and not blind believing. I once told her that in everything in life, we as a people demand proof. If I tell you that the moon is made of cheese, you would either just dismiss me or ask me for proof. However, we are to go around telling people that God impregnated a virgin with no proof their is a God or proof that it happened. I would also ask her to give me an example of a time in our history; citing something other than the bible, where anything in the bible has ever taken place again and in front of witness`s like a lot in the bible is said to have happened. As you can guess, I never got said example and that conversation never went on too long.
