Yeeaaah.....I think you missed the boat on this one. I was pointing out the simple fact that 1 book made him believe in imaginary friends (from when he was an infant, until he went to college), & then another book convinced him that it was all bullshit, & he couldn`t believe how stupid he had been, & so he killed himself. I`m not saying, yeah! he killed himself, I`m saying what an idiot...

Pope JP was a wise old man... But he`s not the only one and it`s sad that no one listens to wise old men unless they`re wearing funny hats.

The new pope kind of lost me when he introduced a new set of deadly sins, seemed like a publicity stunt, and it just grew my distaste for organized religion.

Like the old pope said, look to the family, look to your own contribution to the world. In the end, the Catholic church is just another monolith, focused on maintaining itself as the world changes. Just like our government and corporations, they follow their own interests first, then the interests of their most profitable constituents. Giving them your money and your moral support isn`t going to improve the world, regardless of how often they tell you it will. The best thing you can do is live honestly, work hard, treat others as you would like them to treat you, and teach that to your kids.

Same applies to everyone from plumbers to quantum physicists. Priests are basically there to help teach your children right and wrong... but yeah... you know.

I don`t know the conversation Bill mentioned, but there is no way Francis Collins actually believes in the talking snake. His book the Language of God is almost entirely an argument AGAINST Creationism and ID, while in full support of evolution.
