None of the above... either one of the bearings blew, or the wind speed had temporarily exceeded the safe rating. Either way, that wind turbine is toast, and I have a job making another transformer.

I think they are actually made of fiber glass so they CAN burn. Btw, metal can burn too, just look up thermite.

Vuarra, thats probably it. I am putting my bet on the blades didn`t auto-adjust for wind speed and its RPM`s went OLed. If thats the case is a good thing it didn`t tear it`s self apart. Then there is the possibility that it`s a peaker turbine and the dynamic break didn`t ramp-up slow enough.

McSweeney, Metal can burn w/o thermite just look-up magnesium. In-fact Thermite doesn`t actually cause most metals to burn, just melt. Also, they aren`t designed to burn. They use fiber-glass because it`s light, resists corrosion, reduces the likely-hood of lighting strike and is (comparative to AL) cheap to produce.
