It`s not a "Grand" size, it`s "Gran-day".

You know, like the thousands of other words we use everyday that we lift off from other cultures and then purposefully speak them wrong.

The comic comes across as being more ignorant than funny.

It says "Grande", yes, but I`m talking about the said pronunciation of the word. Which is supposed to be the "joke" of the comic anyways.

Obviously if you`ve never been behind that counter serving coffee, you`ll feel offended.

How is that supposed to make any difference?

It`s a "Gran-day" coffee, that`s the only way to pronounce it. What? Because people pronounce it incorrectly in this country? Because you can`t pronounce it properly?

Listen up, "Grande" isn`t even a fucking English word. If you want to say "Grand" we already have a word to go with that. Say it fucking right and stop looking like a tool. You know all those people learning english that muck up the pronunciations? How they get laughed at?

Same.

Fuckin`.

Thing.

Um, you`re getting upset over something completely different. Ever walk into a Starbucks? That`s actually what they call their medium cups. I was lampooning THAT, and not the actual word. I think it`s stupid for them to do that, and it screws other non-Starbucks shops because unknowing customers tend to come in and say tall, grande, or venti...

...not knocking other cultures, but this stuff REALLY do go on in coffee shops on a daily basis.

In that regard I hope you realize that you should write a little more carefully. Second panel has the customer saying "That`s what they tell me to -say-".

To say. I`m aware that they`re called Grande at Starbucks, yes, but I can glean that from the fact that it says it on the board behind them. Just that one little word skews the whole thing and makes the context verbal. Then third strip follows up with the "actually teach their customers a new language" bit, which only reinforced that the intention is verbal and not corporate.

On top of that some people have no idea what this coffee house culture is or it`s contexts, subtleties and nuances. Inside jokes are only funny on the inside.

Yea, but coffee shop culture is definitely growing, especially within the media. Might as well strike early, right? Anyways, appreciate u taking the time to comment on the comic, and please feel free to read the rest.
