What`s wrong with expressing it openly? I hate people who are willfully ignorant or morally corrupt. The guy doesn`t have to be "liberal" to hate morally corrupt idiots does he?

Does this ban make any sense whatsoever? No.
Are these people making their decisions based on a flawed sense of morality? Yes. Does the hate expressed hurt the message? Maybe, but it`s good to see some honest expression from time to time.

"Liberals" hate "right wingers" because they are trying to enforce their warped sense of morality through law. That`s a pretty valid reason for hating people, don`t you think.

I like seeing "right wingers" openly express their hate for gays, because they expose their flawed thinking process at the same time and lose credibility.

And that`s my whole point.

Right-wingers consider your, and my own, sense of morality on this issue to be warped. They claim moral justification in their own hearts as much as the folks here are doing. They have religious reasons, we have secular reasons. Whoopdeedoo, the reasons don`t really matter. We think of ours as more valid simply because they are ours.

Some day, probably not long from now, we`ll be in the majority. For now, we`re not. And you know what? I can deal with that without calling every religious person or citizen of Arkansas the scum of the Earth. Most people are decent, even if they don`t believe exactly as you and I do. Never forget that.

Are people of conscience justified in hating the Taliban or Al Qaeda? Or hating the KKK and all those racists who supported Jim Crow and segregation? If there is a difference between these examples and the religious and/or bigoted voters in question, it is a matter of degrees and not extremes.

I don`t think that hating bigotry makes you a bigot or a hypocrite, in turn. I think it`s often the first step towards justice.

Maybe I should point out that most of the comments people are making in response to mine are NOT what I`m referring to. Folks are being calm and reasonable in their opinions and are not using foul, steroetypical language to attack others.

Hating is valid...I`ve said this multiple times already. But to compare a person`s moral justification to vote against gay marriage (or to object to the lifestyle) to the open slaughter of people by the Taliban or the KKK, well, that is rather extreme. I mean, seriously, think about what you`re saying. Do you honestly hate Mormons, Christians, and all rednecks that much? I thought you were more libertarian than that.

I`m being a bit of a Devil`s Advocate. Are you surprised?

Sure the Taliban is extreme. That`s why I included the example of those who supported Jim Crow and segregation; those people, very much like the ones who supported Prop.8, felt like their position was entirely moral.

And the Klan? They weren`t always violent. They actually had a political faction that came close to making Catholic schools in at least one US state illegal. No lynchings necessary, just grassroots politics.

I don`t hate the folks that supported Prop 8. And I do feel that, once Gay marriage is made fully legal throughout the US as I`m sure is inevitable, all this friction will seem so needless.

What the hell happened?

Anyhoo, I had a quite lengthy reply to you chrissy, but unfortunately the sight got all fucked up and...it was erased. But let me give you a quick summary.

Say we`re in L.A., and there is a robbery. Considering the nature of the crime and the neighborhood, police suspect that the perpetrator is a black man. To some this would be racial profiling, to you it would be a safe bet and the investigation would continue accordingly.
I rambled on about something like, "While it is true that opposing gay marriage has been a traditionally conservative stance, that does not mean that the stance is exclusive to conservative people nor does is mean that all conservatives share this opinioin". Yadda Yadda Yadda, something about you being the one to miss the point.

I then continued something about, "I appreciate that you kept your reply fairly cordial(though not entirely) and blah blah blah, I remain unconvinced. Oh yeah! I also made the point that I was not speaking of the gentleman in the video, my comment was aimed at we as a people, humans.

Most importantly, I ended on the point that our time on earth is better spent showing the people we hold dear to us that we appreciate them, not showing the ones who don`t matter how much we hate them.

And while yes, we all make mistakes and have flaw, isn`t it best to show people the error of their ways and perhaps keep an eye on the error of our own ways(imagine that!).
I lose my temper from time to time, true. But for the most part, I enjoy reading the different P.O.V`s from the diverse crowd here. Occasionally, I find one that is able to change my mind.

Alright, I have smoked entirely to much weed waiting for the sight to come back up and I`m ready to crash. I`m probably gonna grab a bowl of sugar smacks, pop in a movie and drift off into a nice peaceful sleep.
