Here is a very simple explanation if you still haven`t figured out why privately owned health care doesn`t work out for the best;

Corporations want to make money. Governments don`t.

Have fun when your private health care system collapses.

1) Government`s *do* want to make money. If you don`t believe me, stop paying your taxes (assuming you pay taxes).

2) Yes, corporations want to make money. This can (and does) cause numerous problems with people getting cheated out of their contracts.

3) Nevertheless, because they are competitive, then it is to ordinarily to their advantage to give you the best deal possible. (This does seem to fail, though, due to collusion.)

4) Unfortunately, current national health care systems that have been in operation for any respectable length of time are struggling to maintain themselves (resulting in tax spikes) and failing to offer timely services (waiting months for an appointment as soon as you get referred is annoying at best, fatal at worst).

5) I pose the question again: Is there a third way?

Wow...that was some truly retarded shit there. that guy should go to one of these Socialist countries that he believes everyone is running from, and actually learn about the bullshit he spouts. Health care should actually be mandatory for any country that wants to call itself civilized. All the rest of us civilized nations, you know, first world nations, have health care. And you know what it does for us? It makes us healthy and happy! Confident that we are well looked after and that our lives are in the hands of a system that actually wants to look out for our well being.


The Crack dealer analogy was actually a pretty good description of your medical system. Don`t fix the problem, medicate it! Why find why you are depressed or suicidal or angry or whatever, just take some drugs and forget all about your problems! It makes you much easier to brain wash. :D

The only reason national health care takes so long is because we live next to a country that pays doctors more money because money is more important than patients health. Look at it this way, my family( myself my wife and two kids) pay $108 dollars a month for our health care. And that covers everything we need. And sure, somethings will take a long time before they get fixed up, but it beats not being able to afford and simply getting worse.

Look at the happiest countries in the world and look at how much tax they pay. Denmark is somewhere around %60 taxation. But that`s ok because htey have free health care, 4 years of free university( and more if you have the grades to get it) wellfare( and a free tv when you get off of it!) and they are economically strong. Looking after your populous, even the ones who need extra help, is actually the whole point of a government. When you leave those people to fend for themselves with little help to elevate their status, they often slip through the cracks. Often they end up as criminals. But hey, America doesn`t have that problem right?Oh wait...you have more people in prison per capita then any other country in teh world....Sucks to be you!

Holly hell, where to begin. Okay, our health care is ranked low against that of others in the world, we have shitty health care. We are one of the only countries that do not have universal health care. pyranos, you still buy into the whole Republican vs. Democrat. It`s a joke. He says that Democrats tripped up Bush and then accused him of falling. Bush signed over 200 executive orders while in power! That doesn’t sound to me like anyone tripped him. Republicans are not about power?!? Can this guy be serious with that? After 911, Bush signed orders into law that never before existed that were all about giving the President more power.

Republicans don`t tell you what you want to hear while running for office?!? "The vice president (Gore) and I have a disagreement about the use of troops. He believes in nation building. I would be very careful about using our troops as nation builders. I believe the role of the military is to fight and win war and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place. So I would take my responsibility seriously. And it starts with making sure we rebuild our military power. Morale in today`s military is too low. Some of our troops are not well-equipped. I believe we`re overextended in too many places. And therefore I want to rebuild the military power. It starts with a billion dollar pay raise for the men and women who wear the uniform." - Bush in a 2000 presidential debate.

Not a year later he sent our troops to Afghanistan and Iraq with no clear exit strategy. Our presence over there keeps us from getting attacked? We have over 200 U.S. Embassies worldwide! We also have more than 369,000 active-duty troops serving outside the United States and its territories and only 189,500 of that is in Iraq and Afghanistan. All that does is piss other countries off. Let’s worry about us and mind our own damn business; I bet that would help with us not getting attacked. Ask anyone in the military, they never got that raise. Morale is at an all time low and suicide rates in the military at an all time high. They won’t even buy them proper armor for Christ`s love! The people that are in power do not take their orders from us. They don`t run America. The Democrats hands are just as dirty and bloody as the Republicans hands. Wake up! Quite feeding this ignorant "we are better than you" fire and stop posting these shit videos.

The beauty of posting a different viewpoint, is that I actually don`t agree with everything he`s saying. I just KNEW you guys would attack it, so thanks for that ;p.

It`s amazing how people attack the United States for various things which have the exact same exact viewpoint computermexican warns against: saying how one group, one country, or what have you is better than another. There are positives and minuses to everything. No system is perfect because humans are imperfect.

I`m a strong supporter of Ron Paul`s foreign policy, lets pull our troops out of places that don`t want us there. That in itself will save us billions every year. We don`t need to be the world`s policeman, and the world doesn`t want us to either.

I was hoping people would see the irony in my comments about the video, but that`s a pitfall of written medium. You have to say that it stirred a fair amount of discourse though, and that was just the point.

Seems a pretty ridiculous point to make. You knew people would disagree with what the guy says..so of course they are going to point out the obvious flaws and nonsense he spouts..what exactly is wrong with that?

If i posted up a video of someone seriously claiming that santa is real then i would expect people to say he is deluded and point out that its actually his parents that are `santa` (or the pervy old neighbour who likes to watch him sleep). What is wrong with that?

Nerdicus: Your point about having affordable but slow healthcare rather than no healthcare is well taken. Nevertheless, in addition to it being pathetic to blame another country for your own country`s woes, I wouldn`t blame the other country (USA?) for your (Canada?) slow healthcare. European countries have the same problem.. it`s an inherit flaw in nationalized healthcare, particularly in larger nations. Also, I wouldn`t put too much stock in happiness calculators, but then again, I`m not a utilitarian.

Pyranos: I`m glad you wanted to upload a Republican viewpoint, but perhaps somebody who is less of a straw man next time? Once the Republicans regroup and rethink their policies, maybe they will have somebody worth posting. I wouldn`t be surprised if many of them begin leaning towards libertarianism.

First off, let`s cut the bullshit of the Left/Right Paradigm, which this poor fellow find`s himself in. I am a true Conservative, I am Canadian, however, Canada`s conservative party is not Conservative, it is in fact, Progressive Conservative now. Just as in the states they are Neo-Conservatives. In other word`s both parties both in US and Canada are infact Liberal-Conservatives. Therefore, they both promote Liberal Ideal`s = Big Government/Big Spending/Loss of Liberty...Obama will and does have the same physcal policies as Bush, just look at the 700Billion dollar bail out, as well as, Obama`s position on the War...In other word`s both parties are the epitomy of shit, and we are in fact heading toward`s a Facist/Communist type system, as Gov`ts in both Countries bail out bank`s due to the housing mess, and at the same time, consolidate power...Don`t beleive the hype.
