I would rather watch this than all the "(INSERT HERE) MOVIE" movies plus it`s a matter of taste if you don`t want to watch thats fine but he was very influential as a rapper and i think that if rock artist and Hispanic artist get their own movies because he was just as famous in his genre as they were in theirs.

^Yet again, depends on your outlook. I refuse to acknowledge his greatness just as I refuse to acknowledge tupacs. They were gangster rappers and only helped to perpetuate violence amongst the black community, both of them in a way worked together to split this countries black society down the middle, making them grow up and see a life of crime as ideal and look around you today, its effects still linger. I have nothing against hip hop, but give me an artist any day who raps about things that really matters and tries to make a difference in someones life any day over this shit. How dare you compare this man to the beatles, if anything he was everything that the beatles werent.

You have to get your 5mins of fame... if it means Jerry Springer, Maury or making your own movie.

Nirvana, the Ramones, Queen.

He was a pinoneer of the gangstah rap scene. Granted his style has been copied ad nauseum by an army of douchebags but blaming Biggie for that is like blaming Metallica for Linkin Park.

It`s just not the same music anymore.

as for whether he deserves respect. Biggie didn`t make the ghettos, Reaganomics and crack cocaine did.

He just came up from them and he represented a dream that black people could get out of the ghetto and live the high life they were told they couldn`t. you didn`t have to be jacked up and good looking or a phenomenal basketball player to be successful. You could be a smart witty rapper from the street and get into the public consicousness. Not a huge leap but it definitely changed black peoples` perspective on what`s possible.

He came up with all this talk about Ice, Champagne and women because nobody had ever rapped about "the American dream" at that time. Now it`s a fuckin formula but that`s besides the point.

Like when Metallica wrote about "see your mother DIEEEEEE". Everybody just bitched about how "SATANIC" it was not realizing that James Heckfield`s mother rejected medical treatment on religious grounds and he literally watched her wither away and die before him.

Biggie`s somewhat superficial lyrics themselves were both a glorification and critique on materialism. Now it`s just materialism like shitty metal bands just talk about satanism literally with no depth.

Please refrain from making comments on something you know little about. Did biggie and tupac perpetuate violence toward each other, absolutely. Did they both speak the truth about their childhood, and life. Yes. Its hard for me to read your comment because it seems as though you have only listened to a handful of songs from each artist. Tupac was an actual poet, thats why no hip hop artist or rapper today can be compared to his style or intellect in creating music. Tupac did have a fair share of ganster rap on his albums, but have you ever heard the songs such as, Brendas got a baby, dear mamma, they dont give fuck about us and so many more. Tupac made plenty of music that wasent about violence or killing someone or selling drugs, did he speak of it and rap about it yes, but even amongst his top songs, were songs that showed he really was trying to change things in the ghetto, and where he grew up.

Just my 2-cents, I have a lot of respect for both of the rappers, and not any for most of the rappers today.

i agree with you irish

i hate when people leave comments and have no idea what their talking about. And i espcially hate when people blame violence ,or in this case the outcome of an entire people on music.Thats like saying the kids shot up columbine because of the music they listen to, its just stupid.

and i dont even really like rap, just a few biggy and tupac songs.

I don`t think anyone criticizing this movie are saying that no one OUGHT to make this movie, but that it seems like a giant waste of time. Did Tupac and Notorious BIG, or whatever the fuck his name was, influence the development of "gangstah rap?" Maybe. Do I give two shits? Absolutely not. I couldn`t care less about these thugs, and I will simply refuse to see this movie. If anyone else thinks it will be a worthy investment of 2 hours, go right ahead. I`m not stopping you for the same reason I get to post this: because we all have and are entitled to opinions.

As far as who created the ghettos: Reaganomics and crack don`t make people shoot other people in the face. That`s such a bullshit cop-out. From what I know, Notorious BIG wasn`t an angel, and didn`t do worthy of being honored. There`s nothing anyone can say to me that will convince me that a criminal isn`t SOLELY responsible for their position. Even if it were somehow true, society needs the people committing acts to be responsible; it`s sort of crucial to our legal system and notions of justice.
