Police Will Respond Quicker To Burglary ...

Police will visit burglary victims within an hour, but only if they are upset or feeling "vulnerable" the Government is expected to announce.

It could take as long as two days for police to arrive otherwise.

The guidelines are among 10 new police "pledges" to be unveiled to the public by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

The pledge will say: "If attendance is needed", the police will "send a patrol giving you an estimated time of arrival. If you are vulnerable or upset, officers will aim to be with you within 60 minutes."

It adds however: "Alternatively, if appropriate, we will make an appointment to see you at a time that fits in with your life and within 48 hours.

"If agreed that attendance is not necessary we will give you advice, answer your questions and / or put you in touch with someone who can help."

Other pledges include neighbourhood policing teams who are meant to be visible 80 per cent of the time as they patrol the streets.

Officers should also be at the scene of an emergency 999 call within 15 to 20 minutes.

The pledges also include treating the public "fairly", with "dignity and respect" and involving them in local policing issues.

Miss Smith will be hoping the pledges, to be issued across the country by the end of the year, will help restore public trust in the police.

Complaints against police officers in England and Wales have risen to record levels.

Shadow Home Secretary Dominic Grieve said: "This re-hashed re-announcement is typical of a government that has run out of ideas.

"On the one hand, it includes policy proposals - such as crime-mapping - copied directly from the Conservatives.

"On the other hand, attempts to prescribe quotas and response times look like the return of discredited Whitehall targets under another name."

Not THAT much different in the States. I dunno about that 2 day wait, however.

Shoot, I`ve called to say a burglary was in progress, and the police still didn`t show up for a long time. Maybe I didn`t sound alarmed enough.

This reminds me of that one joke.
The One where the old man heard something in his tool shed during the night, and when he looked it`s light was on, and somebody inside it.
Then he called 911 and the operator told him to lock the doors, stay away from the windows, and a Unit would be there in an hour. "Because there was a lot of things going on that night, and no available units near by."
So The man decided to hang up, wait 60 seconds, then called 911 back. And told them that he went out with his Shotgun, and shot the guy, and he was bleeding out in the shed. Then hung up.
Within moments, all types of units where there, including ambulances. They caught the guy trying to steal shit.
But when the sargeant told the old man, "I dont understand, you told the operator, that you had shot the crook, and he was dying in the shed."
The old man responded, "And you said there weren`t any available unit near by!"

I fucking loved that joke. Old but good.
So in the future, Act super pissed when you want a fast response. Or Homicidal.

Sooooooo....whats the new pledge? These are already laws that the police have to respond to certain calls in a certain amount of time. Either way this has nothing to do with why people don`t trust the police anymore.

The pledges also include treating the public "fairly", with "dignity and respect" and involving them in local policing issues.
^OK so police never had to do this b4? Serve and Protect apparently means jack shit...
