EnertiaBike Electric Motorcycle

This is the promo video from Brammo Motorsport`s website. These are currently in production in my little hometown. (I don`t work for them, but I like to promote `em as much as i can)

Range: ~45 Miles
Max Speed: 50+ mph
Charge time: ~3 Hours
Cost: ~$12,000 for now
Economy equivalent: 345 mpg calculated from gas price of $2.45/gal

This is the first generation of bikes, so it`s about economy for now. Faster bikes may be in the works if there`s enough interest in this model.

yea the 45mile range puts me off ALOT. You are being efficient by riding a motorcycle period. You get at least twice as much mileage with a bike then you do a car as it is.

i was looking at these a while ago but the distance you can go was really weak so i didnt look any further.

Yeah, 45 seems a little low, I mean if you wanted to do a cross-country tour on this bike, you`d have to park every hour, for 3 hours to charge up.

For city driving, this bike is super, good looks, amazing economy, park anywhere, go anywhere in traffic - as long as it doesn`t snow you should be good.

45m range is pretty bad. I actually drive about 47-48 miles each way from work so I would be walking it a couple miles, pretty funny...

$12,000 for a bike? If your goal is efficiency you can by a small 250cc new for around $3,000 that gets about 70 mpg with no range limit and can keep up with highway traffic. That difference of $9,000 will get you about 210,000 miles before you reach the cost of the electric bike. There`s nothing efficient about this thing.

If you`ve got money to spend and want to be trendy and say you`re saving the planet, go for it. Electric technology still has a ways to go before it actually becomes cost efficient though.

I would understand these green concepts more if they had some way of charging without plugging into a wall. On the website they have some sort of money calculator to see how much you would have saved and how much greener you are. I only saved about 700 bucks on a 40mile round trip 20 times a month...and I figure that`s how much my electric bill will increase(maybe a tad less but I have a/c, heating, radio, a trunk.) Also my electric comes from coal and other natural resources so what I`ve done is put the pollution where I can`t see it and called myself green.

^^ indeed but if you only live about 2 miles from where you work like i do it starts to look a little better but still way to much to make any real savings over time and what is the battery life like in 5 years is it only gonna have the charge that last 30 or less miles?
im all for cheap and efficient but why are they so much more once they hit cheap and cheap to BUY thats when the craze will really hit $12,000 to save a round $2 per mile i doubt i will make that money up fast plus what will come out in the time that i am trying to make it up every year they get better and better

V eat me

Being from Britain, the 45 mile range is perfectly fine, it`ll cover all local missions anyway. I`d definetly have one. It would be nice to know I could go visit my friends without paying for fuel (so to speak).

vee445, electric technology to power transportation existed BEFORE gas powered cars! Watch `Who Killed the Electric Car`, great movie and explains why electric cars are not all over our roadways today. The technology exists to do just as well if not MUCH better than gas powered NOW but it is VERY heavily moderated and not being allowed to expand as it should.

Basically...GREED. You can`t make tons of useless gas stations and gas guzzling SUVs to keep them operating, you can`t stage multi-billion dollar pointless wars over foreign oil, and you can`t make money of electricity like you can with gas/diesel powered cars. Everytime someone comes up with an invention for alternative energy powered transport they get :
a. assasinated
b. bribed to shut up
c. have thei patent bought up and sat on never to see the light of day
This is all thanks to the good ole` sons of bitches working for the mega oil compnaies that run our world along with bankers.

Look up Stan Meyers and his Water Car to see an example of an inventor being assasinated.

This Machine Has the heart of good Intentions. But the Specs of little more than a MIT School project.

1. Make It faster.
2. Make It get more mileage out of a charge.

Thats It.

Thing looks pretty sweet, all things considered.

- Monthly cost of a metropass here is roughly 110 dollar
- Bike costs 12,000

Do the math, it will cover 9.09 years worth of public transportation money for 12,000 dollar. (note: the 12,000 does not include tax and cost to replace the battery plus sufficient maintenance.) Do you see yourself riding a bike like that continuously for 9 years? I would much rather have spent the money on a small car that gives me good mileage or carpooling with my friends.

"Max Speed: 50+ mph"

...... am i the only one that finds a bit of idiocy in that statement? How can 50+ be it`s max speed, when the + gives one the impression that it`s capable of going faster. If that`s counting that it can go 50mph on a flat stretch of road... but go faster downhill.... then i bet it`s max speed would be somewhere around it`s terminal velocity, seeing as i`m pretty sure it can go MUCH faster than 50 if we were to shove it out of an airplane.

Thorno, I have seen that movie, and while the technology exists to make cars that are powered by electrical motors, the simple truth is that gas is still cheap enough that electric is not yet financially efficient. Batteries just cost a lot to make. There are also hidden costs in batteries that no one mentions like the fact they contain heavy metals which are expensive to recycle and if they`re dumped could have even worse an impact on the environment than the carbon emissions that people are so afraid of.

Not saying that it`s a bad way to go, but it`s not the miracle solution that Ed Begley makes it out to be.

The Stan Meyer car is just a different way to use electric energy. Instead of powering an electric motor directrly it converts water to oxyhydrogen which then burns to power an engine. That technology was first invented in 1966 and it`s nothing spectacular as it still requires you to carry batteries around to convert the water.
