Some people think Powell has betrayed the Republicans to whom he owes something. But I think many more of us feel that this good man betrayed us, the people of the world, in the run up to the Iraq war. His profoundly honest, well reasoned, and eloquent endorsement of Obama goes a good distance towards making up for that. I am especially impressed by the clear and reasoned voice he gives to his sound moderate perspective. While what he says is hardly controversial stuff in and of itself, he has been generous in giving us a clear and full explanation of his thinking, and he sets a strong example in breaking the "tow the party line and be silent" policy of the Republicans. It is time for honest dissent, and I hope more good people follow him. It is time to meet the future with determined honesty and reason, rather than hollow rhetoric.

All the words in the world won`t make up for is bald-faced lies regarding the Iraq war. Gen. Powell is a lying piece of garbage. Who cares what this guy thinks? I don`t want Obama`s work to lend legitimacy to this scumbag. He endorses Obama literally days before his now blatantly apparent and expected victory? Where was he months or years ago when Obama was delivering the exact same message and the smear campaign against him was equally reprehensible?

Like McCain, Powell cashed out his integrity and character for political lines. Turned out it was a mistake that other families have paid for with the lives of their sons, and an entire country is now in shambles over. Anyone who respects their own opinion for either candidate should promptly disregard anything this reprobate has to say. Even if what he`s saying is true and you agree with him, you can find better people to buttress your opinions.

I have to say I am just as mad at Powell. And honestly wouldn`t mind a second chance. I remember him calling for unpopular action like more people/cash for Iraq. But I also remember him for being transparent. He was never candid about what he said. So whether what he`s done previously was a lie, or is what he actually believed... I don`t know. But I`m willing to keep listening.

Everyone should be taxed the same, end of story. People who are extremely wealthy or just people who make more money buy more stuff. The more things you buy the more taxes you pay its that simple. When you raise a persons tax making over $250K a year he or she is still going to find a way to bring in that $250k. Plus most people that make that kind of money are running a business or providing a service, you tax them more their products or services will become more expensive to everyone. I dislike both candidates and really have nothing good to say about either one, but increasing taxes is stupid.

Powell is slowly earning back my respect ... but he has a ways to go yet. Being part of the great lie about Iraq and WMD`s is something that`s hard to forgive. But crossing party lines and speaking his convictions is a good first step.

I have no problems with Powell`s timing of his endorsement. He did it late, yes, but still in time to give Obama an extra push over the top.
