The only way that comes to mind for me is a very short distance radio frequency device in the base of the spiked one. If he had a receiving wire in his sleeve or on a wrist band it could set off a vibrating unit somewhere on his body.

Maybe even something magnetic if the spike could set something off that way.

I dunno if I`d be keen to give it a crack though.
