^KashV1, I`m a city police officer not a deputy but NO, no body in law enforcement acts this way. We don`t carry machine guns. A semi-auto barret .50 rifle runs close to $8,000US new and over $6,000US used. The round it fires last I checked was over $2.00 each. The fact is yes, the majority of we American`s take our freedoms very seriously. We may have more deaths by firearms but the overwhelming majority are criminals killing criminals and I don`t shed one tear. I enjoy knowing that at anytime my wife has the ability to fend off an attack from someone physically stronger than her. In fact our revolution started when Britain tried to take our weapons at Lexington and Concord. A free man provides for his own defense and with liberty comes responsibility. Giving up your guns only makes you easier prey.

P.S. Let the socialist vote down begin!!!

Whilst I can see the logic on having a firearm to protect yourself from robbers and nayer do gooders it`s based on the assumption that your attackers are armed too. If my home was broken into in Britain I`d be pretty confident my attacker wouldn`t be carrying a firearm and my house has lots of blunt objects that would make perfect improvised weapons to fend off evil doers.

The upside is that there aren`t hundreds of deaths a year contributed to accidental shootings. If you have a legitimate reason for owning a gun in the U.K (farming, hunting etc...) you can get one, but when I was staying in the States I found the idea that any prick with a couple of hundred dollars can walk into a gun store and buy a handgun or semi automatic rifle a little scary (although it`s still an ace place to go).

Still, with the no. of firearms in private ownership over there the cat`s already out of the bag so to speak.

^MrChal, "robbers and nayer do gooders"....hmm...here we call em` murders and rapists aka scum of society. I don`t worry about someone coming in my home while I`m home. You see in the land of Liberty most thugs are to afraid to break in while someone is home...5 points if you can guess why....BECAUSE THEY DON`T WANT TO GET SHOT!! Someone high on pain killers isn`t going to respond to having crap thrown at him, that is of course unless that something is a 180 grain hollow point bullet.

As far as accidental shooting go, more people drown, die in car accidents, and medical mistakes than do by firearms. Would you have us ban water, cars, and doctors? Accidents can be prevented with training and education. Rapists and Murders only understand FORCE! I pity you needing to explain to your government why you need a weapon. It should be common sense why or as our founders said "We hold these truths to be self-evident..." Lastly, not any "prick" can walk in a buy a firearm. You must have a state and federal background check to insure you are not a felon first. All that`s really for shit because if a thug wants a gun he`s going to get a gun.
