The Keating Five scandal, and John McCain's role in it, has received relatively little mention in presidential campaign coverage, and at least one Fox News host seems dedicated to keeping it that way.

That`s called Fox Reporting. They spew a skewed story with a slant to their agenda and if anyone else says anything different they talk over them until they give up. If that person tries doing the same thing to them they get rude and tell them to stick a cork in it or go to commercial. Makes me wish someone would just loose it and pop one of the fucks right in the kisser.

John McCain was one of senators involved in this, and he was cleared of wrong doing. The other four were democrats. So I guess that means that in this case, dems are four times as corrupt as republicans. But then again, nobody here will acknowledge that fact.

to claim that due to the ratio of democrats to republicans in the savings & loan crisis somehow makes john McCains part in it any less severe is alittle short-sighted to say the least.

John McCain is running for office when the economy is the most pressing issue effecting the majority of american people & was aiding Charles Keating back in the 1980s and early 1990s lincoln savings & loan scandle which had a profound effect on the economy.

the cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around $160.1 billion, about $124.6 billion of which was directly paid for by the U.S. taxpayer.

The accompanying slowdown in the finance industry and the real estate market may have been a contributing cause of the 1990-1991 economic recession. Between 1986 and 1991, the number of new homes constructed per year dropped from 1.8 million to 1 million, the lowest rate since World War II.

McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981, and McCain was the closest socially to Keating of the five senators. Like DeConcini, McCain considered Keating a constituent as he lived in Arizona.

Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates. In addition, McCain`s wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators.

McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating`s expense, sometimes aboard Keating`s jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating`s opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln

i was actually going to source it as from `wiki`, but didnt think i needed to for a comment in a forum!!!

the fact that your debating me on `where` i got the information instead of what the information actually IS, tells me that you have nothing to dispute it & not a leg to stand on with your counter-evidence so instead you revert to easy & childish name calling when confronted with facts & evidence.

otherwise state your case to defend McCains record - i for one would like to hear it.

Bleat on, liberals. The Keating Five is OLD news and McCain was exonerated of any wrongdoing. The Obama campaign doesn`t bring it up because, unlike the liberal fruitcakes around here, they know it`s a nonstarter and would only look bad on Obama to dredge it up.

But, yeah, you guys just go on preaching to the choir.

And as rybear noted, it`s just so hard to get the dozens of negative votes you guys used to give me. Traffic must be way down. Seriously, my record is like -150!! Now I`m lucky if ten of you notice me.
