it`s normal to make someone change their clothing if it`s disruptive in any way. the school doesn`t need any reason more than that. and refusal would, of course, lead to disciplinary action. i suspect the other "reasons" were merely the opinions of the people it was disrupting prior and not the actual reason the child was suspended.

"how did you come up with the opinion you like John McCain?"
"I didn`t come up with it, my dad came up with it"

Case Closed.

Fox talked about it like they were abusing his 1st amendment rights like they were macing a peaceful, registered protest.

You have to realize that school is a kids job, like adult jobs some have dress codes. You wouldnt make a big deal if someone got sent home from their job at the 4 Seasons because they wore a shirt that said "McCain Kills Asian People" over their uniform and refused to change.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth, EPH 6:1-3.

Good job kid.

@bm28651: stfu.

The major question that seems to be unanswered is WHY the hell would the kid wanna wear that shirt anyway? Was he motivated by attention? He obviously is ONLY influenced by his father`s views and has none of his own to make a judgment.

bm28651: Honoring you parents and blindly trusting that their opinion is correct are two different things. My parents were scientologists the first 13 years of my life, you think it would have made the lord happy if I had joined up with them?

Damnit, the issue is not whether or not the shirt is appropriate the issue is about whether or not its ok to suspend a kid for expressing his freedom of speech, what the father said about their rules trumping the u.s. constitution is competely true.

Schools exist in some parallel universe where the law applies differently. The school is considered a legal guardian of the children in it. This gives the school almost totalitarian control over the students. A parent could force their child to wear a shirt just like the school can force the child to leave for wearing that shirt. Like funberg said, said you wouldn`t wear that shirt to work.

The Dad says "if the school thinks that School policy trumps the Constitution, they outta be slapped around." First, school policy does trump the constitution. The kids have no rights at all while attending school. Plus, why do republicans always want to solve things with violence? I would love to see the social services get involved because clearly the child has been taught to hate and has horrible parents guiding him. Whew, the wake up call to that kid when he gets older is gonna be painfull.
