Sounds nice, and that`s about it. Where was this guy while the house of paper dollars was going up? He was in Washington, loyally doing his Neocon job of building it up. Now it`s burning down fast. Time to save face by yelling FIRE!

Obama needs to get off his ass and realize that the economy is troubled. He`s been screwing around since July talking to ex- Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, the current Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, and other market experts saying "nothing is more urgent than fixing the U.S. economy"(July 28 2008).

All while McCain has been on the front line of fixing the economy by saying that he will cut taxes(mostly rich peoples taxes) and that he will stay in Iraq for next 100 years.

Though he will save some money by keeping people that work 80 hours a week to put food on the table from getting any health insurance in case their children need medicine or an operation.

notice the 9/11 comment he makes, they`re using fear tactics to try and pass the bill quickly. I understand that we need to act fast, but we shouldn`t act so fast as being coned into another disaster like the start of "the war on terror".

You stupid dumbasses, McCain tried to pass legislation in 2005 to fix Fannie/Freddie, and you dumb fucking liberal Dems all opposed it. All dem senators voted against it, shutting McCain`s legislation down. That was around the same time Democrats got majority in the Senate, so guess what, you fucking liberals caused this mess. Now Reid has the nerve to call out McCain on it.

Hell, even Bush warned of it. What does it say when that retard Bush is smarter than the entire Democratic party? We`re fucked, and its all u liberals fault.

You guys make me laugh. Stick to gay rights, cus we all know how much u faggots love cocks up ur ass.

News update: Bush told Obama to come to Washington, and he agreed. Hah.

Since I know how hard up for facts everyone here is, here`s what McCain had to say on the Senate floor on May 26, 2006 about the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005:

"I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation."

agency-to-oversee-fannie-and-freddiein-2005/

So please, save your quips against McCain. What has Obama done while in the Senate? Ran for President.

^^^Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 was to get more oversight to keep Fannie Mae and from lying about profits to get their executives bonuses. He put his name on the bill in may 2006 right before it died(6 months before democrats got the majority). It was brought to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs in 2005 which was controlled by the GOP. The Senate Banking Committee on July 28, 2005 discussed the bill with the result; "Ordered to be reported with an amendment in the nature of a substitute favorably".

When a revised bill (Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2007) was introduced to the senate McCain chose not to co-sponsor it.

McCain puts his name on the bill almost a year after it was last discussed, doesn`t sponsor the bill in 2007, he says he is against oversight, and highers a campaign manager who is getting paid $30,000 dollars a month by Fannie May and Freddie Mac. And last week he said that the economy is strong.

I`m not about to make McCain my personal savior because he put his name on a bill that was effectively already dead, that was supposed to regulate(which I though he was against) Fannie May for different problems than we are facing now, but ignored it when it was possible that it might be brought to the floor again, claiming the economy is strong.

just another tactic Mcain is using to get more votes.

Best way for the US to help themselves get out of financial strife is to stop the war. US spends $1.8 billion a day on the war, while the cost of living goes up, more and more people cant afford to live in a house.

^ @ crimsonhaz3. In general, in politics, there are all kinds of bills that go nowhere, for all kinds of reasons. I have no idea what this bill was. Do you? Was it the perfect rule from the hand of God Himself? Was it a proposal to give them 700 billion then, just for the hell of it? Obviously unlikely, but for all McCain`s financial and economic expertise (indeed his self professed lack thereof), we cannot know ANYTHING about it, positive or negative, without reading it right down to the fine print. And neither can we forward McCain ANY credit, positive or negative, without a deeper understanding. Moreover, was he doing anything but his Neocon party job? Did he have any real part other than being a congress co-sponsoring mouthpiece. It would seem evidently unlikely that he had any real deep understanding of what it said, just trust in his advisors saying "do this".

It has been obvious to anyone with an IQ above 70 and an attention span above 60 seconds, that all these crisis were coming. If you didn`t have your head in the sand (or up your ass, or your buddy`s), then you knew it was coming. So McCain wasn`t retarded then, and he`s not retarded now (maybe tired though). But that doesn`t mean he was doing the right thing or not. It just means that he helped forward some bill that didn`t fly for whatever reasons.

Unless you want to back your point with a usefull bipartisan critique of the bill`s real merits and drawbacks, and accurate reportage of exactly what led to its failure to be passed, your assertion is nothing but republican monkey farts.

Would love to see some substance. The article you linked is Republican flavoured fluff. I don`t trust Democrat flavoured fluff either.

^^^the democrats opposed it at the party line. They couldn`t even get it in the Senate in 2005. Then, to cover their asses so they wouldn`t get blamed, Pelosi created their own "revised" bill. While all this was going on, Fannie/Freddie were donating thousands to Senators to keep them afloat.

Obama, spending only 2 years in the Senate, took the number 2 spot in donations from them, with $120,000, effectively turning him into a puppet.
