^ No, they won`t have to. It just won`t be safe enough on our roads filled with suv`s, hummers and big pickups. So we won`t be able to drive them here, "for own protection". Besides, dontchaknow hydrogen is the fuel of the future? The future man. It`s just so clean, and it comes from cracking natural gas. Why would you ever want clean practical cars now when you can wait for the fuel of the future?

seriously the cars most of us have now are basically dinosaurs.... it`s ridiculous that they`re all still made of steel and use combustion piston engines, 100+ year old technology. it`s about bloody time we got an update of any kind.

Yeah it`s cheap now, just wait until they start making brand air and slap some taxes on it.

From what I`ve heard, the Model-T Ford got something around 30-35 MPG, which is what most cars still get today. Yet F1 cars are more fuel efficient (even though they use some other insane sort of fuel) than cars we use on the roads today.

Give us all F1 cars IMO.

yeah it runs clean, but everyone forgets how much polution they made at the power plant burning coal and oil to make the electricity to power the compressor...

@sato

While the car`s core technologies are the same, it would be outright wrong to call them dinosaurs. Cars with a much higher safety/weight ratio is made, as well as more powerful and more fuel efficient compared to 100 years ago. Saying cars today are the same as the dinosaurs of yesterday would be like saying a Core 2 today is the same as the 286.

BUT, I agree with you on the most part. Weight should be pared down in cars as much as possible, as it is the single worst thing against both fuel economy and performance, and new technologies are needed to generally save energy everywhere.

I don`t agree compressed air is the way of the future though, I just can`t imagine compressed air being safe (air tanks?) or light enough, nor can they produce the force needed to drive a car with performance consumers expect.

Honestly hydrogen and electricity are the only real alternatives, and hydrogen is such a damn waste of resources.

Hell yeah, I`ve got a compressor in my garage and solar panels on my roof ... now all I need is one of these.

After I take the engine out, chuck that piece`o`shit away, and install that engine into something decent I will be ready to go .... slowly =)

@zero10iz

Im not going to be a jerk but just to explain a few things. In my *opinion* our cars today are like taking something old and making it run better. Nothing really hasnt been changed. Their still made of metal and break down. Like an old lawn mower perhaps that doesnt run it may be old but if you improve wiring for the electrics and put in a new spark plug. Maybe clean out the engine and replace a few parts with *new* ones, does that mean that I have reinvented the lawn mower. No it does not. Anyway just my *opinion*.

As for air compressed cars, this is not a new technology. Simply companies have not implemented it. I know people 8 years ago that decided it would be a fun experiment to modify their car engine to run on air. They got ~100 mpg.

Now for the most important part. You say compressed air could be unsafe. And then say hydrogen and electricity are they way to go. Well technically hydrogen is also unsafe too. It is a highly flammable diatomic gas.

You`ve just been learned! :)

Where does the energy come from? 1.5 euros for the equivelent energy of a full tank of gas seems crazy
