^ Just muscle, that`s their padding. Getting tacked by other players running up your back is a different story though :P Seen a few scrapes and cuts from that. But hey, it`s not rugby if the whole game goes without blood shed. Never see that happen.

Definitely takes a tough motherfucker to play Rugby, but the overall lack of individual skill makes it boring as hell.

Yay, they are in formation... woopdefrickendoo. Barely any strategy involved at all.

@ JustSomeGuy: spoken like a true person who has never played rugby before.

I`m not a great fan myself but i can alteast admit it takes just as much skill as any other team-based game out there. It takes strategies (plays), ball skills, tackling skills, hell even scrumming is pretty damn complicated to do properly.

NZ flopped at the world cup gd to see them back on form imo. <3 rugby and disagree that there is a lack of individual skill there are loads of amazing players out there. what makes a boring game is a lack of teamwork and that happens in all sports. it also depends on context. i love watching the lesser teams during the world cup and watching the americans was just funny :D:D:D

You should play a bit, or learn a bit more about it and I think you`d be surprised at the individual skill required by each player.

Rugby takes the entire teams abilities as well as greatly depends on working together flawlessly simply because although you have designated positions, the nature of the game means that you`ll find yourself in many different ones. And because of that, you have to be extremely well versed in every aspect of play. Kicking, passing, rushing, support, rucking, tackling etc.. You have to know everyone else`s "job" perfectly. Then throw in the fact that there are basically no breaks other than the halftime, so there are pretty much no coaches intructions along the way other than a few screams from off-field. So the cummunication between players in absolutely vital, and while needing to be individually good you also must solidly work as a unit. That`s one of the beauties of this sport. A team is only as strong as it`s weakest link, especially in this game. So in that sense I believe it depends even MORE on each players skill individually.
I was lucky enough to play for 4 years and it is an incredible sport. But dangerous lol. I got injured more in rubgy than I ever did in boxing or grappling. It`s not for the mild, but if you want a challenge and a hell of a lot of fun I`d suggest giving it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Thomas,

i have to respectfully dissagree..

Bigger hits? No, not even close. How is American football more exciting? There`s 5 seconds of play and then 10 minutes of nothing. Faster players? Are you serious? There`s what, 4 fast guys on a football team, and especially in the defensive line, a buch of fatasses that get tired after playing for a grand total of 15 mins. In rugby every single player, EVEN the big ones, have to be constantly moving. Tackling, running, passing etc. If you took a football team as a whole, and a Rugby team as a whole and put them through each others game the difference would be that the rugby players could very easily handle anything a football game could throw at them, but a football team could not. There is no way.
I wouldn`t say "more strategy", I`d say there`s just more time to talk about it. In football you have forever it seems to sit and think about what you`re going to do next. In rugby, you have to be constantly thinking on your feet and have to be in perfect harmony with your entire team, there`s no "ouch, I`m hurt! Stop the play!".

Now I`m not saying football is a bad game in any way, it`s IS actually entertaining. But these are two completely different sports. And this coming from someone that`s played both, Rugby is way WAY more difficult.
It`s faster by FAR. There`re basically no breaks other than halftime. Even if you`re hurt on the field they wont stop the play, they`ll wait for a penalty, or goal or a knock-on before anyone bothers seeing if you`re ok. You`re not just getting hit or hitting, if you go down the play continues and they run right over top of you, and you have to get up and follow immediately..
