Actually it`s "duck meat" made of vegetables (i.e. soy and stuff). Just like how veggie burgers can be made to taste like beef.

As an interesting aside: the taste sensation that we interpret as "meaty" is called umami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umami) and is the taste associated with MSG (Monosodium Glutamate). That is one of the ingredients used to make veggie burgers taste meaty.

Usually asian mock(fake) meat is made with wheat gluten, not veg, like in the west. and it tastes much better than fake meat in the west. actually I`ve got some canned taiwanese curried wheat gluten in the cabinet. You can do a lot with it, but I usually mix it with scrambled eggs, etc. its funny cause the company its made by is "Companion," and I`m usually eating alone. reminds me of the "companion cube" from portal, but more like "companion cylinder"

^I think almost everyone I know in Taiwan would agree that wheat gluten, curried, pickled or however, is fucking disgusting. `Final truth`? It`s a fact that you enjoy eating something that resembles the contents of a diarrhetic asshole.
