LHC at a Childs Level

Although it makes me cringe, this crazy little video explains quite well what the LHC is here to do and explains the standard model. If you`re still a school kid, this might be more on your level lol

What gets me is that any advance in technology these experiments lead to will be enjoyed by people who refute the big bang.

wow that`s some actually good lyricism, I know I couldn`t rap about quantum physics.

Definetly imaginitive. I just uploaded this as I thought it was apt since the LHC goes online with 10TeV colisions tomo morning ;)

just an update, if all goes to plan, it will go online wednesday morning at 7am GMT. Go to LHC`s website to watch a live webcast. I for one will be pulling an all-nighter to see this. Since as it`s only the biggest experiment ever undertaken by the human race for nothing more than the persuit of knowledge and furthering our understanding of how and why we are here. Also, since there are a few fundamentalist christians on spiked, in the words of Dr Brian Cox "Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a twat"

For those people who are afraid of the micro black holes that are generated, here is a useful website for you to keep an eye on: http://www.hasthelhcdestroyedtheearth.com/

Who do you believe? Some rappers or your common sens? We are doomed, the hlc will kill us all. No popping and locking or booty shacking will change it.

@Rhaaaaa
Hmmm, I`m still here. I looked out the window too and we`re not floating around in space. So I think it`s safe to say the LHC is safe. Derived from Dr Cox`s pervious statement, you sir are a twat lol.

@Daveoss
Too right I`d tap some of those nerdy chicks at the lhc.

@nmosfet
HAH, brilliant site.

For anyone who doesn`t know, the LHC went almost perfectly, except for at 4am one of the compressors (for the cryogenic system) died and needed repaired. Then again at midday. But both issues were ironed out. Clockwise ring was perfectly calibrated, as was the the counter-clockwise ring sometime later that day (around 1600). Collisions at 10TeV clearly didn`t destroy the planet, but there is still hope for the nutters that think it will as next year it goes up to full power (7TeV in each direction equalling 14TeV total); Although, it will be some time before we get results since as the instruments on the atlas detector takes 90 million peices of information 600 million times a second. In other words, a hell of a lot of data to get through.

I didn`t think any collisions have actually occurred as of yet. So technically, the "end of the world" event hasn`t happened. Things to take note:

Nature produces these collision on Earth often and yet we are still here. "The Universe as a whole conducts more than 10 million million LHC-like experiments per second."
