No, not naked women. Based on the theory of the "Big Bang."

Created time? So now they`re saying that there was no time before the Big Bang? That`s like saying nothing existed, but what the Big Bang came from must have been `something`, because `something` cannot come from nothing. And for `something` to exist, it must have existed in some form of `time` because otherwise there would be no `next moment` in which it could explode.

^ The same could be said with God. If God created us, than who created him? No one will ever know exactly how this all came to be; we can only speculate.

If there is anything I can say for certain, that is that the scientists really don`t know what they are talking about most of the time.

Look at history for example. Aristotle, Copernicus, etc... all throughout history there were learned individuals who claimed "This is how the universe works." And then someone else came along and said "No, this is how it is."

Every theory that has ever been proposed has later been proven wrong, so the scientists today are extremely hesitant to say anything for certain.

What is even worse of course is the fact that television programs today tend to not provide enough facts and try to embellish this topic in an attempt to make it more appealing to the audience.

Sadly, this video really doesn`t explain anything at all.

Big word there.......`Theory`

Most of the `facts` that we have are not `facts` at all. they are theories.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory

At best we have Thoughts and ideas, which are tested, then are put up for testing by others. At this point you do NOT have a fact.

In time these tests are subjected to retesting with new information and are either found to be still correct or are in need of either change or abandonment in favour of new theories.

A question for you. What was the biggest island mass before australia was found?
The answer is of course still Australia.....Just because nobody had found it yet does not mean it was not there.

Or would you prefer everything was just answered `God did it?` And stop thinking?
If it was up to christian thinking we would still be in the dark ages burning old women.

ecko69x, I`m an Atheist (100%), I`m just pointing out that these so-called scientists don`t seem to understand time.

Science isn`t a religion, we don`t all flock behind leaders ... we`re free thinkers observing the universe around us and coming up with the best possible explanations as to how it`s all working after a lot of research and testing (hopefully).

And I for one do not buy into this whole quantum physics theorem that`s being thrown around these days. To me quantum physics appears to be spiritualism for wanna-be scientists.

Time did not start with the big bang, that is a logical impossibility.

^I agree with you when you say "Time did not start with the big bang."

Personally, I am one who supports a multiple big bang theory and that the current universe is merely the result of the latest. Time has really no meaning other than what we assign to it. Time is but an essence to which there is no beginning and no end. It is neither tangible, nor visible. It can only be experienced. Time has always been and always shall be, just like the universe.

Okay. They don`t touch on it, nor has anyone else yet but one theory, supported by evidence (in the form of observable, measurable and predictable components) is the existance of other branes. I will preface the explanation of this saying that our brains are hard-wired to exist in 4 dimensions (l,w,h&t) as a side-effect, we find it difficult to fathom such occurrences. Rather than me typing a 30 page post and argue it, just do a little research yourself. A search for "Brane" or "M-Theory".

Also, Philosophy is not a substitute for science.

Geez. Ok, I may be a bit off in some of this, but I`ll do my best. Time is a flexible element, and is tied to space and altered by relativistic speed and gravity. Einstein proposed this, and it has been proven. Want proof? Go ask your gps provider how they sync the clocks of your gps system with their satellites, which are in a weaker part of Earth`s gravity. (Hint: The clocks tick at different rates.)

You can`t think of the pre big-bang singularity as a tiny scrunched up mass in the middle of empty space. It contained ALL space. It`s not a tiny bb floating in the universe; the singularity IS the universe. All its mass, energy, and space compressed into a "point" where our mathematics break down.

Time and space are interlinked, as are gravity and light. When you have a singularity, those relationships become so distorted our mathematics aren`t yet as sophisticated to follow what happens. So it`s more like time as we know it began with the big bang, which, incidentally, isn`t thought of as a huge explosion in empty space--again--but a rapid expansion OF space from a singularity to what we observe now as an expanding universe.

Anyone yammering on about how scientists "only have theories," and none of it is provable just needs to go to school. It just defies understanding to think that someone could send an ignorant message like that, and use a computer to do it.

Terrific irony there.

Time is relative. Time can be defined by how long it takes for something to decay. If at the time of the big bang there was only elementary particles, then they cannot decay, thus having no time, or way to measure it. But after the big bang we have decaying particles, and now a way to measure time, which is how time would have been created.

I really hate the mulling over that people give science. First off the Aristotle, Copernicus, and others like you mentioned were proven wrong in a few areas, but the fact is we still use some of their theories and observations even today. Take Newton for example, his theory was proven wrong by General Relativity, but only for long range measurements. It still works for everything here on earth, and even our solar system. It is also a lot easier to work out then General Relativity, thus still being the most commonly used theory for shorter measurements.

Theory in science is also far different than theory used in everyday language. Theory in science is backed up by millions of hours of research, thousands of scientists, the math works out, and so much more. Look at the Standard Model, it was made when we only knew about Electrons, Protons, and Neutrons, but it predicted everything else that we have found, quarks, Neutrinos, and Muons (and hopefully the Higgs soon).

People are so quick to say that everything in science a theory, thus means it holds no weight. It only shows a lack of education.

Time is just the 4th dimension. We can only observe infinitesimal slides of it at a time. There are at least 10 dimensions, our observable universe shows us only 4. So to say time had to exist before the Big Bang is just ignorance to the complexities of our universe.
But I do believe time probably did exist before the Big Bang, but in another universe completely.

Dillinger- String theory is far from fact (which is what i assume you are talking about with the 10 dimensions)(P.S. and if so string theory says 11 dimensions), its math works out and i would love to see it be correct, but many aspects of string theory are built on "what ifs," Super symmetrical particles being one of those statements. But if when they fire up the LHC to full power, and we start finding all kinds of new particles then that would be a HUGE step in proving string theory(which i hope they do!). But until then string theory is just a nice dream for physicists, where all the theories match up together :D

But then again i`m no expert, i have a history degree, not a physics degree haha

^While I agree with you that string theory is not fact, I wouldn`t say it`s far from it. Mathematics has shown that 11 (I said earlier AT LEAST 10 because 10 is a more widely accepted theory, although yes, 11, is gaining credibility) dimensions are highly plausible. It matches the theories very precisely, but these dimensions have not actually been observed, yet.

But I wasn`t trying to prove string theory, I was only trying to make the point that our universe is undoubtedly more complex than we know, and people that claim that time must have existed before the Big Bang are only using the very basic ideas that most people share about time.

And I would assume those people don`t realize that time ceases to exist even in the black hole that currently resides in the center of our own galaxy, as shown by relativity, which was formulated at the beginning of the last century!
