An Australian jogger had to be taken to hospital after being attacked by a Kangaroo while out for a run near his home on the outskirts of Melbourne.
Ambulance officials said the man, aged in his 50s, was admitted to the hospital in Australia's second largest city with a gash on his head and minor claw scratches to his chest, arms and hands.
Despite the ordeal, Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Christine Paterson said the man was in a stable condition on arrival at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
It is thought the jogger got into trouble when he found himself trapped between a male and female kangaroo while out for his daily run at approximately 1.20pm.
Reports say the kangaroo turned nasty after becoming distressed at being separated from other kangaroos nearby.
After suffering painful blows to his head and body, the victim's jog turned into a sprint when he made a dash for a nearby house to telephone for help.
Meanwhile, the kangaroo hopped away, apparently uninjured.
Paramedic Stephen Weissbacher told Australian media: "He was jogging near his home when he was attacked by a male kangaroo. He managed to fight the kangaroo off and made his way to a neighbour's house.
"We bandaged his head and gave him fluid at the scene."
A Royal Melbourne Hospital spokeswoman was unavailable for comment on the man's latest condition.
Attacks by kangaroos on humans are not common but can be dangerous. Possessing a mean kick and punch, the Australian icon has extremely powerful hind legs and sharp claws on its toes, which can be capable of disembowelling opponents.
