^Yeah, but a pair of scissors are purpose made for cutting paper and the like, because it forces the paper between two blades from which it has no ability to flex from, as flexing away from one blade pushes it into another, effectively squeezing the paper until it tears, but because the area between the two blades is so fine, the tear is a flat edge.

Cutting a piece of paper with a KNIFE on the other hand, has to be so sharp it doesn`t simply push, we`re talking so thin on a molecular scale that it can part the papers bondings. It`s effectively causing as little stress as possible due to the lack of surface area of the blade, yet the strength of the blade is still apparent.

Try and get a kitchen knife, and a piece of paper, and without pinning the paper or pulling it flat out, try and cut it. It will either be very difficult, with you having to....balance the paper against the blade to stop the paper from flexing away, or it simply won`t happen, because the blade is too thick.

What the guy in the video did was simply hold the paper and cut it without much thought as to how he was holding it. THAT is sharpness.

The hot phrase in the knife making community is "edge geometry" basically speaking to the angles that are held while sharpening. Even an axe can be made to have such and edge. The problem is that the thinner and sharper it is, the more prone to breaking or cracking. Now, thats just the edge and you`re talking a piece a few thousandths thick, yet its enough to cause "dullness" in the blade.

Wow, I`m glad I ended up running into this. Awesome work here, and the ending was pretty impressive. The sound of that paper cutting was music to my ears.
