That is really damn cool, cheers Intel. Makes me wish I knew more about electricity, anyone have any links / other videos with more information about wireless energy?

I know Tesla had this idea in mind but wasn`t able to go through with it because it wouldn`t be monitored so you couldn`t charge people for it. (Capitalism fails us again). Never the less interesting stuff.

Wow, they could literally do this for everything that requires a plug.

he has a cold.

They would have no idea how to charge people for it. Another invention held back due to money hungry companies.

You totally miss the point. And no, this would not be held back by money hungry companies.

The whole point of this tech is that you can wirelessly power/recharge devices in your home. that`s it. Nothing else.

You would plug a magnetic field generator into you wall (and the power companies would charge you for the electricity it uses). And coils attached to various objects in your home would convert the magnetic flux into electricity to power components or recharge batteries.

The only reason it hasn`t hit the market yet is because of those big coils attached to everything. Nobody wants that.

To people who think companies are always stifling innovation: Why would a company buy off a patent to something amazing just so it doesn`t get made? Does this make sense logically? Wouldn`t the company more likely buy off the patent to a cool new invention and then market it themselves? 100MPG carburetor? While the carburetor has absolutely no gas mileage advantage or capability that a fuel injector can`t do MUCH more efficiently, why wouldn`t the oil companies that bought the carburetor patent just manufacture the thing and sell if for $10,000 each? Doesn`t make much sense does it?

"They would have no idea how to charge people for it. Another invention held back due to money hungry companies."

It can`t replace large scale wiring since magnetic field weaken at an exponential rate the further you`re from the source. It can however replace local wiring for houses and small electrical appliances. You could replace sockets with transmitters inside the walls and simply put anything you need powered near the wall.

Right now the biggest problem is to simply make it cost effective. We`ll most likely see it used in smaller appliances like computer(and everything which has computers in it)

Your_Moms_Daytime_Relief: Magnetic radiation is harmeless to humans. If it wasn`t then the earth own magnetic field would have killed you by now.

im sorta uncomfortable having a device emitting upwards of 100W of power in magnetic fields... imagine what that would do to a hard drive, or any circuit that would be able to resonate that frequency. its just not safe...

^That is one of the reason why you do this thing called "developing".

V - Yeah I know that but this hasn`t anything to do with electrical fields, it`s magnetic.

Thanks Tada. But electric radiation is less than desirable.

There is nothing new with their technology with coils transferring power through an alternating magnetic field.

My Braun electric toothbrush is already using this system to recharge.

I think the earth generates 30 and a mri generates like 300-900 I forgot either way it`s safe. Props for mentioning tesla..after all it was his ideal. And he successfully demonstrated it like 50 years ago.

their is a difference between radiation and magnetism.

magnetic field? there goes my TV, techno-color galore.

There was another compmany that was working on this like in 2004 called the splashpad. it was a pad-charger for your phone. You just put the phone on the pad and recharges.
