What the hell is up with the low scores? This was amazing. It was very insightful, and almost a little too interesting for a mere half-hour...

Yeah, I thought the segment about why the howling monkeys went for red leaves as opposed to the green leaves was pretty interesting as well. Please upload more!

Definitely a really good post. 5/5

mysticman before you write a comment please
do a little research.

"Dragonfly`s live for 24 hours so how did they live long enough to evolve?"

Evolution doesnt happened in a life time. Dragonfly live longer than that please use wiki.... You dont even know what evolution is but you think you know everything lol.

"how come trilobites died out and flies did not? people say a astroid hit the earth, wouldn`t it have killed the land based creatures first?"

Wow who said an asteroid killed the trilobites. Again you think you know but you are just dumb. Please do research. or just go to church and read your bible and leave us alone.

One thing that I asked myself, which was never touched on, was the possibility of a shift in the primary visible light wave-length reaching the earth caused by the C-T Extinction event.
Large amounts of impact ejecta suddenly introduced into the atmosphere would also drive a rapid shift in flora development. I can`t find specific references to it however; is it possible that in the years immediately following the impact there was a shift in the primary photosynthesized color spectrum? Flora, like fauna, had to adapt to acquire its energy as effectively as it could. In a similar fashion to the "arms race", wouldn`t a shift in plant color, as well as making plant energy acquisition easier, cause a great potential need to broaden or shift an animals corresponding visible spectrum? i don`t really know, just a thought.

Touching on the topic of small short lived insects (or any animal really); Its my understanding that due to its short life span and rapid reproductive cycle its evolution is, in-fact, accelerated. This is the reason we can actually observe, albeit minor, evolutionary changes in mayflies. However; due to its extremely simple genetics anything more than a subtle change would cause a failure to reproduce.

Binocular vision -> Social Behavior -> intelligence.

Love it!

@Khollest: Makes sense. Plus, the decrease in incident solar radiation would cause quite a tight evolutionary bottle-neck in terms of floral variation, increasing the likelihood of novel speciation. It is, however, tough to gauge the spectral preference of fossilized plant material. Certainly changes in the atmospheric composition (increased C02, for example) would have affected the nature of this bottleneck though, so teasing out the effect of the spectral shift is a pretty tall order.
