They really are though, if you think about what hes saying it can seriously be applied to anything. Even though there are laws, and things that make it hard to do anything without money. If you dont care about anything and do as you please, well shit, anything can happen.

Damn i want to go to europe. Hitch a ride on some boat some how, figure it out. Theres an infinite number of things that we can do, and well hell, do them all, it is just a ride.

^yeah, what moe said. people take life too seriously. if you really wanted to do something like go to europe, you could. but i bet most people(including myself) would come up with a bunch of reasons why i "couldnt" or "shouldnt" go; my job, school, lack of money, etc.

a lot of people get duped into thinking things are important when, in the grand scheme of things(the elegant dance of the universe), are actually quite trivial.

money will not make you happy(happiness is more complicated than just having material things). you are no better than anyone else (or any other `thing` in the universe, for that matter). neither your skin color, your wealth, level of education, beliefs, etc. makes you more than the next guy. we are all one. that is, the universe is one and we are all a part of it. the universe, riding itself.

Um, so being realistic here... What are you going to do in Europe if you don`t have money? Be a bum, just like you would be in the US.
I am not trying to crush dreams here... it`s just that Bill Hicks, whether he knows it or not, could be considered a Marxist. The human in me thinks that Marxism is a brilliant idea. The realist in me knows that it is impossible.

Its all good to spend war money on feeding, clothing and educating the poor in the wold, however, one IMHO VITAL point is missing: teach them BIRTH CONTROL (if this is not meant to be included in "educating" above). As many will be aware the reason for people in the "poor" countries reproducing like there is no tomorrow has its roots in the unknown quantity of siblings surviving in order to help feeding the family. Unfortunately all of the help organisations do not have the balls to address the problem, hence ignore it and thus create more hungry poor uneducated people because more and more children will survive and reproduce and..... NOW BURY ME!

What did Bill Hicks do in his life? Did he give all his money, house, car, food to the poor unfortunate souls all over the world? No, he waxed philosophical talking down to anyone with success and spent all his money on alcohol and drug binges. The idea of a utopian society is fun to talk about but until everyone leads by example, it’s just a wet dream. Take all the money spent on war/weapons/etc and use it to feed the rest of the world? Are you serious? I`m sure the rest of the world would just follow suit and jump right on the mescaline bandwagon right? They`d leave our peaceful, unprotected, fuzzy warm feeling citizens alone right? LOL, you want to know what the rest of the world would do to us? Take a look at Burma, Dali Llama, MLK, Gandhi and Christ. Worked well for them didn`t? This is not a perfect utopian world. There are things we can do to better ourselves and our fellow man but laying down our weapons and having a one world consciousness orgy isn`t one of them. Learn to lead by example, then we`ll get somewhere.

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. Bill Hicks was a man far ahead of his time, and he was definitely imperfect, but he was a brilliant (and hilarious) man.

And to Dweebster, I would guess that he is a Socialist, but would not consider himself a Marxist at all. Marx was a determinist.
