Land of The Free?

It doesn`t look too good. The “Personal Use of Marijuana By Responsible Adults Act” would eliminate all federal penalties for possession of less than 100 grams of marijuana and the not-for-profit transfer of 1 ounce or less.

Please visit MPP`s online action center today and ask your U.S. House member to co-sponsor this legislation.

"Approximately 50% of all drug enforcement money, federal and state, during the last 70 years has been directed toward marijuana! Some 70-80% of all people now in federal and state prisons in America wouldn’t have been there as criminals until just 60 or 70 years ago. In other words we, in our (Anslinger and Hearst inspired) ignorance and prejudice, have placed approximately 1.2 million of the 1.8 million people in American prisons (as of 2005) for crimes that were, at worst, minor habits, up until the Harrison Act, 1914 (whereby the U.S. Supreme Court in 1924 first ruled that drug addicts weren’t merely sick, they were instead vile criminals). Eighty percent of these government “War on Drugs” victims were not dealing. They have been incarcerated for simple possession. And this does not include the quarter of a million more in county jails. Remember, just 29 years ago, in 1978, before the “War on Drugs,” there were only 300,000 people in American prisons for all crimes combined." - The Emperor Wears No Clothes, Chapter Sixteen

just because a lot of people do drugs doesn`t make it a good choice. i think that star program sounds like a great idea, helping people who are too weak to get off drugs by themselves while maintaining prohibition, which is essential to keep out this stuff that damages livelihoods, families and communities.

to any other commenters who might be recreational drug users, remember not everyone has the self control to limit their drug consumption, there`s always gonna be some who get high all day, become useless at work and get fired, and turn to crime to pay for their drugs. the law is not for u but for such people.

there are people who get drunk all day, become useless at work and get fired, and turn to crime to pay for their alcohol does that mean that I shouldn`t be allowed to drink anymore just because a few people are to goddamn stupid to know there limits?

I don`t do any drugs I box and so am occasionally tested for drugs that being said the vast majority of my friends do use marijuana and there all very intelligent motivated people so you`re saying that they should be punished and even have to spend time in prison and have there very promising lives fucked up because someone somewhere might take it to far and commit a crime?

these laws are not preventing people from committing crimes by keeping drugs out of there hands there creating crime and criminals where neither would exist if these drugs were legal. what I choose to imbibe, ingest, smoke or inject into my own body is my own fucking business I hurt no one but myself if however I do cross the line and hurt someone else then you can punish me for what I have done you cant punish everyone for what someone else might do.

"there`s always gonna be some who get high all day, become useless at work and get fired, and turn to crime to pay for their drugs. "

That`s true. ALWAYS! No matter how many laws you pass or how many stoners you throw the book at. No matter what! You`ll always have people like that. But don`t worry here is a very easy solution. If they turn into real criminals, throw them in jail for robbing old ladies and stealing from folks. That`s a real crime.

Seriously, when was the last time you ever heard about a guy that became a violent sociopath because he smokes pot? Who robbed old ladies in dark alleys just so he could get some smoke. Let me know when you find that person, I think his name is Waldo something.

Come to canada they will never jail you for marijuana

Small story of mine

Like 4 years ago we where at that elemantary school and some police comes buy because we had some music too loud... we where also smoking pot and drinking that night. They did nothing they just said turn the music down and we did, they also played a bit of basket ball with us :D. Thats what police shoudl be about, we where bothering people with our music wich is understandable but they didnt say a word about us using pot and drinking on a elemantary school park...

Canada FTW :P

I had a night school teacher for my addiction class who was addiment about legalizing drugs and showed us lots of videos supporting legalizing drugs. The point is we people need to raise more awareness about how much better it would be if we would just legalize and regulate the drugs. Thanks for posting this video computermexican!

I have 2 roomates. One is a mild stoner, I rarely get stoned (maybe 1-3 times a year at a party) and my eldest roomate at 38 smokes weed daily.

All I have to say, like anything, you abuse it, you lose it. Like someone eating donuts all day, you will get fat. You drink all day, your body gets sick. You get stoned all day, you get lazy and dumb.

My eldest roomate is actually quite smart, but so fucking lazy and has been out of work for a year.

I for one, as a tax payer, am fucking tired of helping the losers that make this choice for themselves, and indirectly, for you and me to help them.

I feel bad for people born with a handicap, physically or mentally, and fully encourage society to help them. But when some food stamp, wellfare, lazy minded asshole CHOOSES to smoke weed all day, do crack, do heroin, be drunk, be irresponsible, why are you and I, the moderates, the straight and narrow, the responsible people, paying out the ying yang to help them?

Fuck em I say, literally. If we were all hard asses on fuck up, there wouldnt be any. Don`t believe me? Try going to a 3rd world country like Thailand. I live in San Francisco, see about 5 homeless per downtown block (no lie). Bangkok is about 100X larger, I have been there 6 times, been all around downtown and have seen 2 homeless people.

Why?

Being homeless in bangkok means you die, no one will help you. Also the family structure there is stronger. Here in America there are food stamps, well fare, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, free clinics, free this, free that. The sad thing is that NONE OF IT IS FREE! The responsible middle class pays for it all.

So I say it here. FUCK LOSERS. QUIT FUCKING GIVING MONEY OUT TO HOMELESS PEOPLE!

thats right
homeless people are just fucking lazy i live in canada right now and have seen many homeless people in my city the weird part is my city is very low on workers right now there is practically hundreds of jobs that you can take even without any education hell clean up fucking toilets if you have too but I guess some homeless have morals/sarcasm
they treat prisoners too good anyways hell i have seen prison cells with tvs in them
they should treat them like france used to,where they put them in a dark hole,no communication and no toilet
that will straighten up everybody

the same for drug users
if you choose to fuck up your live your problem but dont take my money doing it ,

I`m sorry guys im all for legalizing, marijuana is responsible for a whole lot less crap than alcohol, if someone decides to abuse it then let them ruin their lives because thats all that will happen. i smoke everyday and have for years. But i do what i need to do to better my life, i work full time and completely support myself at 21, im in school full time and i play ice hockey for a travel team. do you guys have any idea how many doctors and lawyers and extremely successful business men smoke pot? i sold the shit in highschool and half my clientel were well established individuals, yes the drug has negative effects but only if you let it.

@venom2
Nice huge post there but really doesn`t deal with the topic here.. There are MANY responsible stoners....infact i`m sure noone would disagree that even the heaviest of smokers are a HELL of a lot more responsible than ANY alcoholic. Also a lot more peaceful...but yeah if alcohol and tobacco are legal then Marijuana of all fucking things should be legal...It`s just too easy to grow on your own for anyone to capitalize on it...and that my friends is the only reason it is illegal.
