@TumbleCow: I`m pretty sure what happens is he collapses your wind pipe and causes your neck to seize up so you can`t move. If he didn`t put pressure on the points that he did after hitting the guy, he probably wouldn`t recover.

It`s a whack to the brachial nerve that causes that. My buddy, Gun Kevin (just be glad he`s on our side) knows all kinds of fighting techniques. I would have him do that to me with much less force and the whole side of the body goes limp. It can be very dangerous, though.

in the neck there are the carotid arteries. They are sensitive areas and regulates your blood pressure. if you actually massage the carotids (HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED), it will drop your blood pressure and heart rate. Enough pressure or even striking them can potentially knock you out.

The explanation for these sorts of attacks involve series pressure points. There were three strikes, one kick, two at the neck, and it`s supposed to over-load the nervous system, much like brain trauma, and it shuts down momentarily. I`ve just read a little and seen some demonstrations, I`m not sure I buy it, but that`s about what they say. You can find more if you search for Dim Mak. The other guy`s might be right, I don`t know, I`m just saying the sort of explanation that`s offered.
