^ Define "man" and you`ll accomplish something that medicine, science, ethics, culture, religion, philosophy etc have struggled to do for ages.

There are surprisingly many people who are born with the external genitalia of one sex, but the hormonal/biochemical make-up of the other. It is not unusual for such individuals to have sex changes so that their outer appearance conforms to their chemistry.

(There was a Dutch athlete who was given a posthumous apology recently for being banned from the Olympics many years ago. Doctors back then claimed that physicals proved she was actually a male, so she was barred from competing as a female. Recent DNA evidence shows she was genetically female, but with masculine genitalia.)

Intersex / hermaphrodite births are also quite common. They may have a combination of male and female genitalia, or what appears to be the genitalia of one sex that morphs into the other, usually around puberty (Mother Nature`s sex change!). Many of these folks also undergo surgery so that they can have bodies that match their self-image.

And some people simply want bodies that express their identities - male, female, or something in-between or other (what columnist Dan Savage refers to as "chicks-with-dicks" and "guys-with-pies" or trannies that like to straddle the lines, cross borders.

And why not? Countless cultures, past and present, allow for far more flexible definitions of sex and gender than our silly, backward society, poisoned by thousands of years of Judeo-Christian taboos.

And of course the animal kingdom is full of such gender-bending.

This guy is more man than a lot of the losers out there who don`t deserve the title just because they happen to have a dick.

Why are transsexuals given more respect than people like the leopard man? If someone wants to try and become a different gender/species, why is one treated as natural and the other as freakish?

Sorry, but this woman will never be a man. At best she`ll be some subset of "in between". I`m not trying to be cruel. If a woman wants a dick, fine, give her a dick, just don`t try and convince the rest of us that she isn`t a woman pumped full of man hormones.

When you first started incubating in your mother`s womb, you were a female. Then doses of male hormones turned your little Taj-clit into a little Taj-penis. Your labia fused to become your scrotum. What would have been your ovaries descended to become your balls.

As I pointed out above, some folks naturally end up in-between. And sometimes people have a hand in the process.

Why is it so hard for folks like you to understand that there are lots of different kinds of men? Some are born, some are made (actually, I know the answer to that question - it`s that 3,00 years of monotheistic superstition I already mentioned). Why, there are plenty of cultures around the world where you`re not considered a true "man" until you marry, have kids, kill a wild animal, undergo some blood-letting ritual etc.

There are even cultures in Papua New Guinea that do not consider you a real man until you have ingested another man`s semen, absorbed it `in anu`, or rubbed it on your skin!

To those folks, *you* might be some pretender, some "subset of in between"...unless you`ve got that base covered, that is :P

The difference is that with transsexuals, the hormones aren`t naturally introduced, the whole process is artificial, it goes against that person`s normal bodily process. Take this woman away from drugs and cosmetic surgeons for a few years, and I bet she would become less and less "manish". Transsexuals are about as real as fake tits. Some people can`t tell the difference and some people prefer the fake ones.

Monotheistic superstition has nothing to do with what`s real and what isn`t. The leopard man is not a leopard, this women is not a man and fake tits look rock hard. This may just be my perception of things (What is real :o?), but it has nothing to do with preconceptions of purity and what`s "right".

I tend to take the side of cultures which know about STDs and DNA. To each their own.

^ Actually Taj, as I`ve already pointed out, for many transsexuals, the hormones that are behind their gender-bending *are* natural. They are born trannies. The surgery they undertake is merely finishing what nature started...assuming they undertake surgery at all. Many trannies are quite happy simply changing their names and wearing different clothes. No surgery needed.

Monotheistic superstition has *everything* to do with it. The idea that one kind of sex or sexuality is "right" or "true" is one we in the west inherit from Judeo-Christianity. Many cultures, like Native Polynesians, have more rules about what you eat than how or who you screw. Thailand has three genders, numerous west African tribes have 12 kinds of marriage, including a whole menu of gender-bending options depending on how the individuals involved identify, Native Americans had/have what European colonists called "berdache", "two-spirit" people who were born one gender, but took on the traits of the other. It was completely normal to the Natives. But the Europeans then, just like you now, couldn`t wrap their small minds around what those cultures took for granted because most of those colonists, prior to crossing the ocean, had never been more than a few miles from the church they were born and raised in, with all its silly taboos and superstition.

Sadly, the "Enlightenment" did little if anything to get rid of those taboos. It usually just replaced "God" with "Nature", and the prejudice remained.

Some of the most "qualified" minds in science and medicine have yet to come up with a simple answer of what`s "right", what`s "real", where gender and sexuality are concerned, what is a "man" or "woman" etc. Indeed, those who insist on such simplistic notions are usually just revealing how little they actually know.

Go peruse pics of hermaphrodites, intersexed folks, Thai katoey or Indian hijra, folks born with extra male or female hormones or who are perfectly in-between.

If you can tease out what`s "real" and "right" when you`ve actually chewed on the facts for a while, talked with these folks, rather that what you just see on tee vee, you`ll have accomplished something no one else has yet.

If it can get pregnant its a woman (for humans that is, before some smartass biology student tells me a wierd indonesian male fly can get pregant)!!!

I`d argue this "guy" isn`t really either male or female, but is more on the female side. Male hormones but with female organs, coupled with the fact he/she fulfilled the biological FEMALE role in life rather than the males, leans more to female.
I`m still waiting for the first male pregnancy & birth: denfined as a baby popping out of some poor bastards butthole or urethra, vaginas don`t count!
