ELECTRIC. Batteries are so much better than when EV1 was built. And Electric is the only one they can`t control (there are too many ways to get electricity), which is why you hear the least about it.

^^Always boggles my mind when I hear people with speech impediments doing jobs where they speak for a living. Ever hear a the Geico ads announcer at the end? He says "Inchurance" because he can`t pronounce the "s" sound. Only thing I can think is that it`s done on purpose so that you remember the ad (obv it worked) by noticing the impediment.

And yeah, it`s pretty sad that zero real R&D has been done on alternative energy since the 70`s. I guess that`s what happens when there`s more money to be made selling oil and the government is owned by corporations.

In the 70s there was no safe way to store the hydrogen in the car. Those canisters in Nicholson`s car are incredibly dangerous. 2000 PSI hydrogen is no one`s friend.
The reason this was not implemented in the 70s is for that reason alone. Only until now, when we can make extremely strong and safe composite cylinders cheaply is a hydrogen car feasible.

No ryanjms , the corporations are led by the government. Who do you think is making the most money ,Shell or the government that taxes the fuel?

Maybe the the oil companies and government are to blame for supressing this technology, or maybe it`s because the vast majority of people just don`t believe that this technology exists. Every time I try to talk to people about it outside my usual circle of friends they either laugh or roll their eyes and change the subject. How can you sell something to someone who does not believe a word you are saying and if you can`t sell it how can you get funding for mass production.

First off hydrogen is not a "fuel" like gas is, it is made by using other forms of energy (electricity or natural gases) it`s a way to store energy far less efficient than batteries (at least modern batteries). So I don`t know why "environmentalist" are pushing for a hydrogen car when it is far less energy efficient than electric.

and for the whole "the man" keeping the alternate fuel car down thing, is stupid. just think of owning a company that makes cars back then when gas was less than a dollar and in good supply. If somebody comes into your office and says instead of building the kind of cars we have all the equipment to make we should make a different car that will be able to go a fifth of the millage on a huge tank of explosive gas, that people won`t want to buy because there is no hydrogen gas infrastructure like petrol stations, I don`t know about you, but if I`m ruthless enough to get to the top of a car company I`m going to laugh your ass out of my office for suggesting we spend huge amounts of money to start making cars people don`t want to buy.

Alternative powered cars haven`t been able to get off the ground until now because the demand has never been good enough for an auto company make them.

You are as much to blame as the oil companies for the lack of electric cars, the technology has been around for a while, but it`s lack of you (and me) not going out and buying one and putting up with the pain-in-the-ass of the short range and the difficulty of finding fuel, or waiting to charge your car for half an hour. If we had been willing to do this from the beginning the industry would have met our demands, and car companies would have been fighting to make better hydrogen/electric cars than each other for decades now.

I`m drunk and rambling, but one more thought. Just think of the sports cars we would have now with the insane amounts of torque electric motors produce, with 30 years of auto company competition.

dweeb, oh ya, i forgot, they lacked the technology to make strong tanks in the 70s... ... *blinks* only cutting edge technology can make a strong storage tank. they are incredibly complex afterall.
