I really liked Willem Dafoe`s character in this movie. He seemed like the "wise old grandfather" character.

Well, here I am, anonymous all right. With guys nobody really cares about. They come from the end of the line, most of `em. Small towns you never heard of: Pulaski, Tennessee; Brandon, Mississippi; Pork Van, Utah; Wampum, Pennsylvania. Two years` high school`s about it, maybe if they`re lucky a job waiting for them back at a factory, but most of `em got nothing. They`re poor, they`re the unwanted, yet they`re fighting for our society and our freedom. It`s weird, isn`t it? They`re the bottom of the barrel and they know it. Maybe that`s why they call themselves grunts, cause a grunt can take it, can take anything. They`re the best I`ve ever seen, the heart & soul.

This movie is God

I mean no offense to anyone except the producers/directors/actors, but...Platoon is the worst movie set in the Vietnam War. I can`t believe it won best picture. a la Forrest Gump beating pulp fiction and Gladiator beating ANYthing.

Always thought it was the best, must have watched it 20 times plus when I was a kid.

I LOVE how it lacks the usual pro government policy crap and just portrays the human aspect of it:
interpersonal relationships within the platoon,
The enviromental hardships,
The unexpected ambushes,
The gritting fear of death,
The adrenaline high of battle,
The civilian suffering,
The evil coming from both sides in the conflict,
The good men from both sides,
The embodiment of the battle between good and evil within oneself.

Plus, I saw the extras on the DVD and oliver stone went through every trouble to interview a whole lot of vets and try to cover evey possible aspect grunts whent through. got every detail down to the army equipment, guns used, clothes worn, etc...

truly 10/10 movie as far as I am concerned

^Right you are dude, People crap all over our military and talk shit about those that protect them in their own damn country, When really the soldiers dont give two shits about retarded fucking polotics or peoples retarded left wing opinions.

It seems like everyones got some fucking opinion today...But they can never amount up to what a soldier is and the respect they diserve. And i mean all soldiers from any aspect of military around the world.
