He clearly hasn`t been to my neighbourhood - I have to put up some pretty hefty nets every night to protect myself from the swarms of lions, tigers and bears when I go to sleep.

Yeah, and after the rest of us used DDT to get rid of deadly mosquitoes, we turn around and tell the poor Africans and Indians to go fuck themselves and die because of a bunch of junk science that says we`re hurting a few birds.

Well, guess what? After years of fighting western bans, Kenya finally started a mosquito eradication program using DDT...and it`s fucking working!!!

Goddamn high and mighty environmentalists would rather let die TWO MILLION CHILDREN EVERY YEAR rather than use a proven method for eradicating the deadly mosquitoes and which has never been proven to actually hurt the birds.

In fact, raptor species were on the rebound long before DDT was banned, but several years following laws which banned hunting them. Imagine that.

it`s not working in North America b/c the pests are already DDT-resistant.

And DDT is not soluble in water but very soluble in fat/oil. That means once an organism (whether it`s human, bird, fish, insects, etc) consumes DDT, it stays in its body untill it`s dead, and this usually means DDT being accumulated through the food chain and those at the top of the chain (eg: Humans) will be eating a very highly DDT-polluted products.

ugh. i hate the guy`s voice. and i hate that he says "diseases and viruses" but only mentions malaria. truth is, the DISEASE kills people, not the mosquito. don`t get me wrong, i hate mosquitos as much as anyone else. but there is a cure to malaria, it`s just that pharmaceutical companies can`t/don`t make it affordable enough to cure the 2M people who die each year. this video was more scary than it was informative...

Lol, DDT has been proven to be a very good killer of almost anything, and mosquitos and the like have not developed an immunity to DDT. This compound has been proven to be one of the most effective methods of controlling pests, with one side effect... massive deaths and mutations to those higher on the food chain. Fact of the matter is, those higher on the food chain accumulate DDT though biological amplification. DDT is such a strong substance that we see the effects of it in usually 1 generation. Insects have not developed immunity, as you have suggested, but perhaps some tolerance. DDT is awesome if you wanna kill something, but at what expense? Not only is it stored in the fats of animals, but it passed on from generation to generation due to it`s solubility in fat. This means within a few generations, humans will begin to see the effects of DDT on ourselves, not to mention other animals as they die. Your sense of logic defies me EckJerome, with animals higher on the food chain, the effects of chemicals etc. take generations to manifest, but when it does, the effects are much worse than those lower on the food chain. In fact, DDT has not been banned in areas such as africa, it is the North Americans that have banned DDT indefinitely due to it`s high toxicity. If you want millions of people worldwide to suffer and die from DDT use, that`s your choice, but I would rather have the mosquito as a natural population controller than have to use DDT.
