American Jewish University presents best-selling authors Sam Harris and Rabbi David Wolpe in a debate about the existence of God and the role of religion and faith in society. Sam Harris is a renowned atheist and author of The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation. Rabbi David Wolpe, of Sinai Temple, is the author of Teaching Your Children About God and Why Be Jewish. This debate is moderated by Los Angeles Times religion editor Steve Padilla.

Thorno you picky brat you know how long it took me to upload this video...I first had to download it, convert it, TRY to post it in spike, create a google acount, upload the video to google, and finally post on spike...*Sob*...and i did this all for you because you said in a previous post:

"I like your uploads mate but I particularly appreciate this one. I am already an Atheist but this is a great find, a joy to watch!"

These videos don`t find themselves so you better damn well appreciate them...

^^ Boring??? Are you kidding me? This is juicy stuff. Seeing how someone posted this I`ll upload the cross-examination between Dinesh D`Souza and Michael Shermer...hopefully it won`t get deleted like all my other uploaded debates.

However, what never ceases to amaze me about ppl like those in this video, is how they can be asked a very thoughtful question and respond within seconds with a well thought out articulate answer. I would need at least an hour just to respond intelligently to either side`s challenges.

No one seems to point that the idea of something infinitely wise and superior beyond the human understanding and grasp is a dangerous idea that preempt any sort of intellectual advancement. That idea confirms the level of fear in human where sometimes the inadequate but simple dogma works the best because the lack of comprehension of the unknown or forever demanding a better understanding is too much for some to bare.

^^^Hitchens points that out when he say our frontal lobes are to small and our adrenal gland are to large (we`re still dumb animals). It`s human disposition that causes people to cling to their unsupported beliefs.

Further this is addressed when ever they bring up the "god in the gap" phenomenon; where by the religious fill god into the gaps of yet unknown knowledge.

In the debate Sam point this out when Mr. Rabbi starts talking about brain chemistry. Little did the Rabbi know or he forgot that Sam is pursuing this doctorate in neuroscience and, Sam replies "your PREJUDGING the mind body problem". Sam then further explains that when somebody injures their brain they lose very specific functions; like not being able to speak but still able to understand language (Broca`s aphasia). He points further too the silly belief that when the entire brain is dead that it`s THEN the soul escapes and gos to heaven. Their you have it a religious person filling in god where hes not needed and the scientist taking him out.

I just can`t resist pointing out that a Christian(which I know u r from previous debates) that can`t wait to slice another person with a sword is an inherent contradiction to the belief system of the Christian faith in regards to the treatment of others.

Does God exist? This is a very interesting question . . . oh wait, no it isn`t. No one actually gives a damn. People who believe, will continue to believe, people who don`t will continue to disbelieve. If you`re so weak in your own ideas, values and/or convictions that a poorly written book or short crappy talk will persuade you, you probably shouldn`t be allowed to watch T.V. from fear that you might flip-out watching a drama portraying an extremist.

All these debaters are doing is reinforcing peoples` preconceived notions. Sam Harris isn`t trying to convert anyone, he`s trying to call those like-minded to action, which is as potentially dangerous as Christians forming a state independent military, or worst-case scenario is merely just a divisive way to sell books. Don`t misunderstand me, I feel better knowing people like Sam Harris are toting the line I stand on, but I don`t feel good enough to think it`s justified for any other reason than to counter-balance the other extremists.
