*SPIT TAKE* This is NOT British humour at its best. In Britain we`re all horrifically embarrassed about Benny Hill, we`ve no idea what he`s put in your water supply to make you think he`s funny.

^Wrong my friend. This is an example of British humour at it`s best and we should not be ashamed of it. It is in the tradition of burlesque and slapstick. There are many shades of comedy, from subtle word play to knock-about physical, and they all have their merits.

Benny Hill was famous both in England and abroad for many years. His TV program made a fortune for the TV company he worked for with huge overseas sales. Then the `Politically Correct Brigade` got their miserable, soulless way and he was banished into the wilderness.

Granted that there are some areas of his humour that seem a bit out of kilter with to the modern eye, but that is just the way of the world. But the likes of Benny Hill, Spike Milligan, Tony Hancock, Morecambe and Wise and all the other great comics of that era left a very rich legacy, and one that we should be proud to acknowledge.
