Weaponology: French Foreign Legion (4/5)

"The Légion étrangère is a unique elite unit within the French Army established in 1831. The Legion has survived three republics, one empire, two World Wars, the rise and fall of mass conscript armies, the dismantling of the French colonial empire and, finally, the loss of its birthplace, Algeria."

What kind of ignorant self-proclaimed terminal ballistics "expert" is that? Terminal ballistic researchers haven`t used ballistic clay for decades because it was very poor at simulating actual human tissue. Most of the tests they did with ballistic clay have lead to conclusions and assumptions that have been proved to be completely false in real life situations.

As a matter of fact, the .30 carbine calibre have proved many times on the battlefield to be underpowered and to have insufficient stopping power while the 30-06 was extremely effective.

The conclusions they`ve taken out of those tests in the video are the complete opposite of reality.

Actually, most of what that terminal ballistic "expert" said was complete bullshit.

I was wondering about that as well Phanto. Looked like they got a gun fan from Nebraska that had read a few more books than the average person.

I also also wondering what the hell was up with the clay, as most demonstrations I`ve seen have been on gel.

What he did prove, though, is that the french rifle totally obliterates clay. C`mon... you gotta` admit that clay was totally owned.

Ammo from handguns and "low-impact" sub-machine guns have the advantage (as do the "lower stats" guns the french used) of wounding rather than killing the enemy. This alone provides them with cover of the enemy having to take care of its soldiers (or population as the case may be) rather than leaving the dead bodies of their comrades behind.
Instead of focusing on the ballistics test (which does not hold to any scientific methods* currently used), I think `t is best to look at the facts. Which indicate that such outdated or underpowered guns are quite effective (when enemy infantry does not have vests for one), as demonstrated by the modern manufacture of pistols that do exactly the same (in fact, are designed for it).

*when testing for human tissue, which is implied here by the historical nature and use in indochina, other material is best used.
When faced with actualy clay or concrete, a wall would absorb the impact in a different way. Perhaps even to more effect, perhaps to far less depending on circumstances.
