No f*&king problem, if ISP`s start to restrict access, people will move to direct peer to peer internet connections and possibly even satellite internet access (we don`t need to stick to western ISP`s - we could just get the russians to give us access). In any case, the internet is network of computers in its basic form, how the hell are they gonna stop us from connecting to each other, especially with wireless technology and advanced encryption?

PS - If you know hacking, hack the sh&t out of those who want to restrict internet access!

Many Asian and African countries do not have net neutrality. I know because i have been there. youtube and other vids sharing website like spikedhumor are offlimit. because the government afraid people will be releasing information to create up-rise or revolutions and stuff like that, it`s stupid.

Anyone who votes less than 5 probably owns or benefits from this already - or perhaps is just the greatest hole of all asses (if you know what I mean).

^^^ Only if you don`t know what a proxy is.
Partly the reason why there are so many Chinese hackers... sorry, bad joke.

The Great Firewall (look it up in wiki if you don`t know what it is) seems to have evolved a bit, too. Now it`s not only imposibble (save through proxy) to access and view foreign sites including sensitive keywords from in China, but also impossible to view Chinese websites with such contexts from out of the country. Basically the filter now works both ways, which means you guys can`t visit certain Chinese websites that are perfectly viewable by people here.

It`s a big what the fuck moment for internet users here, you know, it just doesn`t make any sense.

Proxies and peer-to-peer can`t prevent this type of thing, simply because the ISP blocks or degrades access to any address it wants, whether that be Google, or your mate down the road.

In fact as the video says it`s already happening in the US:

http://torrentfreak.com/verizon-bans-p2p-streaming-services-and-onli

ne-gaming/

Now of course even the Chinese aren`t stupid enough to go all the way so they don`t block all IP`s except the ones they approve, they simply ban the IP`s they disapprove of. But as I said, that`s easily reversible. In fact your firewall on your computer can do the exact same thing - its not even hard.

So the only reason ISP`s aren`t doing this at the moment is that there is no financial incentive. Google is not gonna pay an ISP to allow access, and as such it would only take one ISP to advertise that they are unfiltered and all the others will get hammered.

The real problem is in markets where there is only one provider - then the audience is captive and the ISP can do what it wants... which is exactly what is starting to happen such as with Verizon.

So short answer, nothing you can do (proxies, peer-to-peer) can prevent or get around this, short of using your vote to make the politicians take notice.

Edited to add:
By the way, don`t think that this is an ISP issue only. Consider Google and the other search engines - they can accomplish pretty much the same thing by determining what results you get to see. If you don`t know the site exists, it doesn`t matter if your ISP doesn`t block or degrade it, you are still unlikely to find it, and thus that site is likely to go out of business.

google itself is already doing this* by using a restricted(less links) dbase when traffic is way too busy.

*making access painfully slow or not working or displaying at all
