[SPOILER WARNING]
1- There were 3 buckets of glass;
*Probably the second one was fake... That would explain why he kept the two of them at the edge. He was so cautious with every details, I found strange he didn`t ask any of them to sample the the whole batch.
*That would explain the twist in the middle.

2- The brain shut itseft up after 10 sec without oxygen, and auto-destruct after 4 mins, but you can learn to keep your respiration for a good 3 min without any problems.
* I propose that, he kept his respiration for few sec in the bag, and activate a device that blocked his blood in his left arm for few sec, to make his heart appeared stopped.

3- For the whole glass thing, walking on "ALOT OF GLASS" is not something as rare as he pretend. It`s a classic trick like walking on nails, the goal is to use as much surface possible to distribute your weight.

If you have other or simpler suggestions, go ahead I`m curious too ^ ^

^ fryser_d, interesting points. We know he doesn`t hesitate to use deception (at his wages I wouldn`t either), and this one is pretty ambiguous. I have video of people chewing up lightbulbs, in poor enough circumstances that we can be certain they had no fancy tricks at their disposal. (third world countries, shaman / voodoo stuff). They probably just had some good drugs and solid mental illness. My point is that glass isn`t always as bad as our cringing would have us believe.

Drugs are a really possible option for Darren too. Takes the edge off the anxiety and pain. Inderal and/or Lorazepam, plus some good opioids, with a rag in his armpit to cut off the pulse, would all add up nicely. That and "I`m about to earn another $$$$$$$$$, so what the hell".

In any case, people pay well, and greatly love being tricked and made pleasantly uncomfortable at someone else`s expense. Looks like a good job if you can land it. Darren`s lack of in-your-face egomania, his pretentions of devotion to the job, his very real creativity, and his not artificially larger than life style, all add up to him being a very pallatable and respectable entertainer.

Stick a tennis ball in your armpit and squeeze it. You can stop you`re own pulse in your wrist pretty easily that way because the artery/vein you feel runs all the way up into your upper-under arm.

I don`t know about the rest of the trick though.

You can also shut down your pulse by clenching the mucles in your armpit. So his pulse would have "stopped" but if she`d checked his carotid artery it would have been pumping strong and hard.
