It's Off With Hitler's Waxwork Head

The head of a waxwork of Adolf Hitler has been ripped off by a man just hours after the sculpture went on show at Berlin's new Madame Tussauds. Police have arrested a 41-year old man.

Why ruin a good piece of work?

You NEED a wax figure of Hitler there. If you can`t stomach it, GOOD because it`s meant to offend you. That is what the Hitler wax figure stands for, it forces you to remember.

If we always bury history like this we will always repeat it because we forget images like this. We forget the atrocities of World War 2 because we don`t give it a face. If we don`t give it a face, we don`t give accountability, it becomes a meaningless statistic in history which people are quick to lose interest over. The wax figure is a symbol of our human mistake to not do the right thing until it was almost too late. How we let just one man kill millions because of our complacency. This symbol speaks volumes more than mere text.

I think the German people are missing the point. It`s not a monument of shame, it`s an opportunity to learn from mistakes and teach future generations why racism and genocide is never justified.

True, don`t ruin a good piece of work - it was impressive, buttTo some people, these wax statues present a sort of glorification. We shouldn`t hide history - but we shouldn`t put people like Hitler on a pedestal, which I am sure is problem here.

This reminds me of people who don`t want sex ed taught in schools because they think it leads to promiscuity. Some people just can`t wrap their heads around the idea that depicting or discussing something doesn`t mean celebrating it.

No one is saying it`s putting it on a pedestal. If anything it shows it was just a human sitting in a cramped bunker with nothing to show other than millions of deaths.

It shows that the dark madness of WWII wasn`t some great super evil. It wasn`t just a destructive force.

It was ANOTHER human being... just like -you- and I.

One person could ignite a shift in politics so drastic we`re still feeling the shockwaves. And I bet the man that tore the head off wasn`t even a US Marine that fought in the war and lost his platoon. I bet it wasn`t even a Frenchman that had his brother die in the underground resistance. I bet it wasn`t a Polish Jew that had his father and mother burn in the Holocaust. And you damned well bet it wasn`t a German ex-Nazi soldier that gave up everything in his life to his dictator... only to find he`d lost it all.

It was someone that forgot it was a statue. He forgot what it was supposed to symbolize. He`s probably a man that has been so indoctrinated in demonizing Hitler that he forgot Hitler was a man (and therefore lost the connection to himself).

Prior to this event I hadn`t even heard of this wax statue.

So guess what? By defacing it he made it -more- popular internationally. By "fighting" a ghost he gave the memory of Hitler -more- power. Should the statue have been ignored, yawned at, or passed over for something more interesting this we would have been empowered.

All that guy did was show he was a tool. In the end, Hitler won out, for he still showed he exerted enough power to get that reaction from even beyond the grave. Some people forget a simple fact:

Hitler is fucking dead.
