CERN: Scientest Say it's Safe

From National Georaphic.com: Scientists say there is no chance that Eupope's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will produce an apocalypic black hole or deadly catastophe when testing begins in August. What do you think will happen when the LHC goes online?

freaks me out a little bit. i don`t understand exactly how they are going to do it. i know about blackholes and what they are. but not enough to understand that it is safe. but i guess if you are smart enough to come up with something that complexed and amazing, surely the scientist know what they are doing. right?

looks pretty fucking cool though. reminds me of something in "halflife"

haha if you *really* knew about black holes then you`d know that they are created by gravity!!! When a large star nears the end of its life the outward pressures of of nuclear fusion begin to diminish and so the all the mass of the star come crashing down inwards forming a black hole.

Tiny little atoms being smashed together producing some millielectronvolts of energy will not create anything other than the splitting apart of the atom so scientist can study its properties.

this thing won`t creat black hole lol..
if the earth turn into a black hole.. its size will be a few cm in diameter.... and it will last a few sec...

so imagine what happen when an atom become a black hole...

^^^ erico, i think alot of people hear the term `super collider` and since they don`t really understand much about the world around them, wouldn`t know why scientists wanna smash atoms to study to begin with, let alone how they do it or what they need to monitor it all with. All they do clearly understand, ever since 1945 taught us to pay attention, is that splitting an atom can somehow make the worst boom we know of. So hearing about the biggest frikin particle collider we`ve ever made, and comparing its abilities as being able to generate own little big bang, could make a small black hole sound plausible and scare the crap out of the uneducated.

I`ve been following this like everyone and cannot wait to see what sorts of announcements we`ll be in store for over the next few years.. gravitons would be cool just for starters, but that`s not even close to the top of these LHC guy`s lists of possible `oh-shit` discoveries. Like has been said above already and in this video - this is stuff that already happens in the galaxy and what we`re doing is not even to that scale, still totally micro level. We`re fine - on with the science! And flying cars and stuff!

worried yeah right... because a collection of the most intelligent and experienced people in the world might not know what they`re doing.
this goes in the same pile as the housewives who don`t even know what genetically modified food is protesting against it. tards.

Hopefully they`ll open a worm hole to another universe and then we can all play Half Life 1 in real life.

If it does create a black hole that sucks the Earth up, we know how some of those other black holes out there came about.

The part of the argument they make about doing something that happens all around us in nature doesn`t bother me. What bothers me is that nature doesn`t provide a perfect laboratory setting for it`s particle bombardment and it`s not directly being observed. We want to see what reality is but we don`t dare think of the consequences, that`s what bothers me.

Have any of you played SimCity 3000? Remember the Fusion Power Generators? What I`m wondering is if this thing can basically recreate that in real life, where it produces more energy by colliding atoms than it does to power up the P.A. New source of energy please?

It hurts to see just how stupid people are. but it hurts yet more to see that they are taken seriously. honestly, black holes from a particle accelerator? at the very least look something up on wikipedia before you start using words to advanced for your malnourished brain.
