Fugue in G minor - Bach

Greatest fugue ever written fugue : Since the 17th century[3], the term fugue has described what is commonly regarded as the most fully developed procedure of imitative counterpoint. A fugue opens with one main theme, the subject, which then sounds successively in each voice in imitation; when each voice has entered, the exposition is complete; this is occasionally followed by a connecting passage, or episode, developed from previously heard material; further "entries" of the subject then are heard in related keys. Episodes (if applicable) and entries are usually alternated until the "final entry" of the subject, by which point the music has returned to the opening key, or tonic, which is often followed by closing material, the coda

A few comments, from a lover of Bach and counterpoint:

How can you talk about a Bach fugue without discussing which one? Bach composed many fugues in g minor. This is BWV 578.

Also, the sax ensemble is a disservice in many respects. This piece was written for one instrument: organ. That means, it was origianlly written to be played by one human being - all the melodies and countermelodies and counterpoint played by one human being. The logistics and technique are staggering. This is a five voice fugue. Even if you were to simplify and say the organist can play one melody with each hand and foot, there is still one melody that`s unplayed. It`s of course too simple to say that, since all 5 melodies are intertwined in a much tighter range, and the organ lacks key-specific dynamics that might make hearing each of the 5 difference melodies distinctly easier. Having five persons play this greatly simplifies the performance, and detracts from the "WOW" factor. Geez, you played one line of a fugue on your sax? Good for you. You can play sax at a 4th grade level. If you could perform this convincingly on the organ, you`re in the top 5% of organists in the world.

The sax sound is a disservice to fugues anyway. The saxophone ensemble could very well have chosen a Bach toccatta to perform instead, which might benefit from the more contemporary sound of the sax.

Check this out, for a good organ performance of this piece:

This fugue was originally made to be played on organ, but strings make this piece magical, the dynamics of strings makes all the difference, and i think they took to much liberty in this interpretation but unfortunately, i didnt find any video with string instruments.

yeah, dude. the music is awesome, but it sounds like crap with saxophones. it`s almost something that a high school band would do.
