Transsexual Toilets For Thai School

A Thai school has created toilets for its transgender students with a sign that's half male, half female. The Kamphaeng School in Si Sa Ket, in northeastern Thailand opened separate toilet facilities to accommodate hundreds of transgender students who have always longed for their own restroom.

"Sex change" operations are fucked up, and South Park explained why. If a man could really be turned into a woman then whatever, I`m sure most decent people would be cool with it. But they can`t. What we have is men walking around with mutilated penises and fake tits trying to trick people into thinking they are woman. People have been put in mental institutions for a lot less.

Trans. shouldn`t have to hide ... but they should definitely not attempt to deceive or trick anyone. YES, it is a big deal if you can or can`t have kids, as that is something a lot of people want.

Trans. need to find spouses (if they so choose) that don`t want kids, or keep their current genitalia and find someone with the opposite so they can still have children.

After that, there shouldn`t be any moral dilemma as such, because then it only affects them.

I think you`re smarter than your comment above, at least if your comments on the post about the British-Muslim religious school are any indication. You need to research transsexualism and third/multiple-genders with the same zeal (and I don`t think basing your views on South Park counts for much...).

Intersexed births are actually quite common (babies being born with genitalia/ partial genitalia of both sexes). It is also surprisingly common for children to be born with the outward genitalia of one sex, but the genetic/chromosomal/bio-chemical makeup of the other.

And of course many cultures, past and present, have acknowledged, even enshrined places for third/multiple genders (and let`s not even get into all the gender-bending that goes on in the animal kingdom!). Indeed, Ford & Beach`s groundbreaking meta-analysis of sexuality among dozens of world cultures showed that Western society, with its fixed, dualistic notions of male/female, "gay/straight" is actually the exception - not the rule.

Third-gender katoeys are a part of Thai culture going back centuries. This is not some "what is the world coming to" fad, it`s the way Thailand has been long before Western definitions of "gay/straight/bi/trans" became popular.

I worked in Thailand a bit after finishing up a degree in Asian languages. I really admired the katoeys I saw and have a high degree of respect for Thai culture and the tolerance katoeys are given. They face bigotry, too, just like anywhere (as some of the uninformed comments above reveal) but the rest of the world could learn a lot from them.
