School Confiscates Party Invitations

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — A school has confiscated an 8-year-old boy's birthday party invitations after they were handed out during class because it said it had a duty to ensure against discrimination.

The boy handed out invitations to classmates at his school in Lund, southern Sweden, but did not invite two boys because they were not his friends, the Sydsvenskan newspaper reported earlier this week.

The report on Friday did not name the boy or his family. It said the boy's father has filed a complaint with the parliamentary ombudsman.

The father told the newspaper that the two classmates were not invited because one had bullied his son and the other had not invited his son to the classmate's birthday party.

"My son has taken it very hard," the father told Sydsvenskan of the school's decision. "It's like taking someone's mail."

The parliamentary ombudsman has asked the school board to decide on the issue before Sept. 8.

Are you kidding me? What happened to the good old days(which really weren`t that long ago) when schools didn`t have to get involved in every last bit of your life, and really didn`t give two shits about things like this?

Looks like he`s gonna have to get on myspace and send invitations that way, unless the schools are controlling that too.

Shit, they had this when I went to school (Catholic School). All the kids did was call up the other kids and invite them, then talk about how cool the party was.

Thanks for bringing up repressed memories InsayneJayne.

that`s socialism `equality` for ya

well, i guess i am "ignorant" to think the government should stay out of our lives and to stop controling our actions,

perhaps the smart thing to do is for me, you, and everyone we know to start wearing achromatic jumpsuites and pray to BigBrother in a grey conformist society

Is it just me, or did the Catholic schools make the sinister in me just so much more fun! ;-)

Yes the topic is a soar one for many. Poor kid just want ed to invite some friends! Tough Shit for the other two!

I just noticed too, that they just decided to step in on this party, but not the previous one, in which the named student didn`t get invited.

Fair`s fair. Why did the school have to get involved in this case?
Although it would be a nice setup( and good birthday present) to invite the bully, and have the entire party gang up on him.

That`s call `freedom`.

"He didn`t invite me why should I invite him?" Sounds fair to me. Why should you get to join in the fun when you did not even think about me when you throw your birthday party?

And for god sake, he bullied me! Why should I even consider to invite a ****** who bully me in school when I don`t even invite the other guy who didn`t invite me to HIS birthday party?

And he said clearly they are NOT HIS FRIENDS. Would you invite someone who you do not consider as friend to your birthday party even if you are in the same class? I know I wouldn`t.

Anyway, I was thinking of he is discrimenating as in not inviting a black or some other races but if it`s for this lame reason then the school is pretty stupid, or at least the teacher is.

The schools really need to piss off. It`s the kid`s birthday party so he can fucking invite whoever he wants to invite.

Oh maan..getting rejected is part of life, the point of childhood is preparing you for the real world. If you are constantly shielded from everything unpleasant then you will take it so much harder and become an emotionaly crippled dick. Sighs....

kilopop19: Ignorant person is ignorant...

http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunds_kommun#Politik

I quote ...

"Lund är ett starkt fäste för Folkpartiet och Miljöpartiet som båda har betydligt högre stöd i Lund än i länet och riket"

Translation:
"Lund is a stronghold for both the Liberal party and the Green Party, both of which has a substantially bigger support in Lund than in the rest of both the county and the country."

In the 2006 election the four biggest right wing parties teamed up and formed "the alliance", in order to reach their goals. They won and are currently in power. More on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_for_Sweden

From Sydsvenskan - http://sydsvenskan.se/lund/article340726.ece:

Some more quotes with translation.

"Enligt skolans regler måste elever som bjuder till kalas på skolans område antingen bjuda alla klasskamrater eller ingen alls, alternativt alla pojkar eller alla flickor. "

Translation: "According to the schools own rules each student that sends out party invitations has to invite everyone in their class or none at all, alternatively every boy or every girl."

I think anyone can spot the hypocrisy here...

"Nämndens ordförande Lars Hansson (fp) tror att nämnden med all säkerhet kommer att ställa sig bakom skolan.
– Jag anser att personalen på enheten har handlat korrekt och föredömligt. De har som tydlig uppgift att motverka alla former av kränkande behandling. Att utesluta enstaka barn och elever från kalasinbjudningar är inte acceptabelt. "

Translation: "The chairman of the board(the guys in charge of lund) Lars Hanssons(folkpartiet/liberal) thinks that the board will most likely suppor the actions of the school.
- I think that the staff on the unithas dealt the situation correctly and exemplary. They have a douty to prevent all forms of discriminatory treatment. To exclude some children out of party invitations is not acceptable."

So kilopop19...something you`d like to share on the matter. Perhaps you took a special class which said liberalism is actually socialism, then you could perhaps enlighten us on the subject? Otherwise please shut up you ignorant wanker.

lol...I remember in second grade, I only invited half of the class to my birthday party at Major Magic`s!(Chucky Cheese clone)....I was like "Fuck em!" Had a blaaaaast playing TMNT and Terminator 2 arcade games that day! Not including the children I didn`t like. Which is a right we should all have. To be able to make our own decisions, such as inviting the kids you would even want at your birthday party!!! Not the dickhead kids who would ruin your party. Some kids would show up just to ruin it... Seems such a right is becoming more and more of a fantasy.

It`s his party and he should be able to have it on his terms. Not dictator school terms.
